The impact of plastic in the ocean A plastic tide The impact of plastic in the ocean

Mumbi In mumbi there beach is called the plastic graveyard this is because it looks more like a dump, it's whole beach is just covered in plastic that washed up from the sea it is disgusting . Also in mumbi they set up the worlds largest beach clean up with over 4000 tons of plastic collected in just one year

How does plastic end up in the sea, lakes or rivers Easy ! People throw their rubbish into the rivers and lakes just out of laziness would you believe out of 300 million tonnes of plastic produced every year only 5% of plastic is recycled every year and On average we are trowing 1 whole rubbish truck of plastic into the sea every minute

How are we affecting marine life and ourselves When plastic gets into the sea it gets broken down into millions of tiny (micro) pieces over time. Then small fish come along and eat these tiny pieces, then larger fish (including whales) eat the smaller fish with tiny plastic pieces. When humans catch the fish and eat them, humans are then eating the plastic that we threw there in the first place. Also millions of birds are dying each year from plastics. We are destroying marine life !!!!

How can we save the ocean Well if you try to recycle more of your plastics that would be a great help One of the worst things you could do is throw baby wipes down the toilet .why ? Well baby wipes are also a type of plastic which mean they don't rot away like toilet paper does they stay as a solid

Thanks for listening Any questions
