Introduction to MY AMAZING PROJECT. When I told Ms. Heywood what I was planning to do, she showed me this video on THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH. This video showed me the garbage floating in the sea and I was horrified to see what we have done to our environment. This video inspired me to research this topic: Water Pollution.

What is Water Pollution? Water Pollution is the introduction of impurities into water which negatively affect human, animal and aquatic life. Definition of Garbage? Garbage is any matter that is no longer wanted, needed and is worthless.

How is the water polluted? The garbage reaches our seas because of:  Oil Spills  Sewage  When we leave the garbage on the beach, the sea picks up the garbage from the beach and it washes into the water.  When we throw garbage into the sea.  When boats dump their garbage into the sea.

The Consequences for Polluting the Water? If we pollute the water, then: o Aquatic Life would be killed o Birds can die when they become entangled in the oil spills o Animals die from the polluted water o If the aquatic life, fish markets will have nothing to sell o If the fishes eat the garbage and do not die and we eat them, we can get infected too o Solid waste can cause flooding.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the garbage that is swimming around the Pacific Ocean. The garbage is about 10 million square miles and stays in the Pacific because of the currents. This garbage patch is made of mostly plastics which do not break down but break into smaller pieces. The sea life consumes these plastics and soon dies. Researchers once found a small fish with 26 pieces of plastic in it. We can stop this from happening by throwing away our garbage and not leaving it out on the beach to be consumed by turtles that come up and would not wash into the sea.

How to stop Water Pollution!  We can get rid of the oil spills by using a slick bar  We can pass strict laws and penalties will be given out to people who disobey the laws  We should educate the public about the dangers of Water Pollution.
