Prepared by Janis L. Stevens, CIT 106 Course Coordinator Where to Start CIT 106 Prepared by Janis L. Stevens, CIT 106 Course Coordinator Greetings, It is my goal with this PowerPoint presentation to introduce you to the Oncourse course management environment for CIT 106 online and help you become more proficient using Oncourse as well as learn more about the course. Click on the speaker icon on each slide to hear audio. Let your instructor know if you have any further questions after listening to this presentation. Have a great semester. http://www.engr.iupui.edu/~stevens/cit106online/wheretostartcit106onlineF 08.htm

Home Tool When you first log into Oncourse, you access the home tool on the black menu bar. The tab across the top identifies your course and section number. You will also find the instructor’s name, contact information and textbook information. Look here for announcements.

Syllabus Tool The syllabus tool on the menu bar provides a direct link to the syllabus. Please read through it to find the policies and procedures governing this course. Let the instructor know if you have questions.

Schedule Tool The schedule is divided into five columns. Column 1 lists the topics in the textbook for due dates that appear in the second and third columns. Column 4 lists or links to the preparation necessary to complete the graded events listed in Column 5.

Schedule Tool (Continued) The Graded Events column on the schedule has a link to your assignments. Click on Instructions and Submission Requirements to see the instructions. This is also an explanation on how to submit assignments.

Submitting Assignments via Message Center Follow assignment instruction & submission requirements Using request subject line very important All assignments submitted to the instructor via the Message Center need to have the requested subject line. Assignments will not be graded otherwise. The instructor receives hundreds, if not thousands, of student emails in a semester. It’s easier for the instructor to manage the course and respond to you if you used the requested subject line. Thank you!!

Messages Tool When you send a message to the instructor, choose Instructor Role in the TO: list. If you choose all recipients, the message goes to all students and all instructors.

Data Files Tool The data files that accompany the textbook are available from the Data Files tool. You will also find links to downloading, compacting, and extracting file folders on the data files page.

Video Lectures Tool The video lectures tool links you to a display of the video lectures found in the Preparation column of the Schedule. In most cases, it lists the topics covered in the lecture.

Task List and Tutorials Tool The task list and tutorials tool links to the task list governing this course. It is our very detailed version of course objectives. We are also building an inventory of tutorials for various tasks on the list. Check back frequently for updates.

Original Test and Survey Tool Many tests or quizzes for this course are available in the Oncourse Test and Survey Tool. You will select a test from a list of tests. There are two very important steps to follow after you complete a test to make sure it is fully submitted. After you have answered all the questions, click the Send button. You should see a percentage score. Scroll down from the percentage scores. Click the Finish button to fully submit the test. If you do not fully submit a test, your instructor will not receive your scores which means you would earn no points.

Gradebook Tool The gradebook contains all grades for the course. The gradebook item title is the same as the one on the course schedule.
