Mission The CHIETA contributes to sustainable development through facilitating the provision of the skills for growth in the Chemical Industries Sector.

WHAT ARE SECTOR EDUCATION & TRAINING AUTHORITIES (SETAs)? CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability WHAT ARE SECTOR EDUCATION & TRAINING AUTHORITIES (SETAs)? SETAs were set up replace Industry Training Boards Legislated in the Skills Development Act of 1998 as a SETA, and the SAQA Act of 1995 as an ETQA, (Education Training Quality Assurance Body) Functions include promoting skills development using levy grant funding received from Employers, issue certificates to competent learnes after due diligence quality assurance processes, register assessors, capacitate the sector to understand its role, incentivise training through Discretionary and Mandatory Grants, inform companies about the tax breaks they can obtain through skills training

Implications of NSDS: SSP CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Implications of NSDS: SSP Planning and Programmatic Strategy for HRDSA - (Levers) INSTITUTIONAL SETA LEGISLATIVE SDA INSTRUMENTAL SSP Better planning basis for skills development-There is a more detailed in-depth planning and forecasting ‘Quality’ – as opposed to focussing on numbers and quantity Performance based reporting SSP: need to consider Economic sectors sector growth and development (inclusion of sectoral cluster approaches) Employment trends National Government strategies National and provincial growth trajectories, and Provincial development strategies. HRD Planning Challenge of taking sectoral and provincial aspects into account, but has the benefit of linkages with HRD-SA Sign-off requirements – NB for engaging to ensure collaborative interventions 4

On line source data WSP & data analysis linking with the SSP OFO linking and Job Profiling Skills audit and skills gap analysis 3. Promoting Growth – Public FET College system Expanding capacity of training provision within public FET’s Identify relevant programs within industry and offer vocational courses and work experience Possible exchange programs 4. Youth and Adult Language and Numeracy Our Industry has a smaller need than other industries
