DARBY HIGHLIGHTS READING & LANGUAGE ARTS AFTER-SCHOOL/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES MUSIC & FINE ARTS TECHNOLOGY SCIENCE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES & PTA

READING & LANGUAGE ARTS BI-WEEKLY LIBRARY VISITS All students are given access to Darby’s student library every other week with our lovely librarian, Ms. Irene Frizzell. NEWLY RENOVATED “READING GARDEN” Students are encouraged to relax and read in peace in our newly renovated reading garden! “DARBY READS” PROGRAM The more students read, the closer they get towards their gold medal in reading, and earn “Darby Dollars” to spend at the Darby Dollar Store every Tuesday at break!

READING & LANGUAGE ARTS ANNUAL SCHOLASTIC BOOK-FAIR (3/2 – 3/9) Every year, students, teachers, and parents are provided access to thousands of affordable, educational books and products to be purchased at the school – set up by our wonderful PTA! AFTER-SCHOOL/ COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: After-school YMCA programs (TK-5th Paid Program) TGA Tennis (Paid Program) Youth Services (YS) (Grades 2nd-5th Free Program) Enrichment Programs (PEAKS & Mad Science) Torch Run (Special Olympics) LA Marathon for Kids Students are taken out to participate yearly in the LA Marathon for Kids!

MUSIC & FINE ARTS YEAR-ROUND ORCHESTRA LESSONS WINTER PROGRAM Every Monday, Ms. Jeanne Mitchell holds orchestra practice in the auditorium for lessons in flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and trumpet. WINTER PROGRAM Every year, Darby holds it’s annual Winter Program featuring all of its students singing and dancing us into the holidays! CULMINATION PROGRAM At the end of the year, the 5th grade classes throw one last big performance to celebrate their culmination!

MUSIC & FINE ARTS TALENT-SHOW AROUND THE WORLD ART SHOW Hosted by the PTA Students audition, rehearse, and perform for the parents, teachers, and student body in a wonderful evening event! This year’s theme: “Let’s Go Crazy!” AROUND THE WORLD ART SHOW This year: Each class has selected a different country to learn about and create fantastic art work to celebrate diversity!

TECHNOLOGY WEEKLY COMPUTER LAB CLASSES (ROOM 10) Students have allotted computer lab times each week with Ms. “Jay” Pastores, and are currently practicing their typing, essay writing, PowerPoint creation, movie editing, and beginner to advanced coding! STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY New state-of-the art Chromebooks and iPads are being integrated into the students’ learning curriculum daily.

SCIENCE ANNUAL SCIENCE FAIR The students at Darby Avenue Charter expand their knowledge by creating hypotheses and testing their theories. The science fair is a great way for students to expand their analytical minds exploring different ways to test ideas and showcase their projects. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students complete individual projects Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students complete a class project, but can provide individual projects as well!

Fundraising & PTA “AMAZON SMILE” Silent Auction Family Fun Nights Anyone who makes a purchase off of Amazon through “Amazon Smile” can help provide funding for the school with every purchase they make! Silent Auction The PTA is organizing a large silent-auction event to raise money for laptop carts for every class on campus! Family Fun Nights Regularly-hosted “Family Fun Nights” at various eateries to help raise money for the school! Check out http://darbypta.my-pta.org for more information!
