1 Welcome to Curriculum Night Ms. Boggess Fifth Grade

2 Expectations/Rewards/
Consequences Respect people and property; Be responsible for work, actions, and belongings; Have fun. Rewards: move clip up, phone call/note, prize box, other as determined by teacher. Consequences: move clip down, phone call/note home, time out, other as determined by the teacher.

3 ARC We have a new reading program, ARC (American Reading Company)
IRLA, teacher directed, small group/research, writing

4 Math Facts It is imperative that students know their multiplication and division facts from – 12. We will practice in class, please also encourage practice at home. Thank you!

5 Homework Homework will be on the computer, Schoolnet. Students will access it through Powerschool. 20 math problems assigned on Friday, due the next Friday. Science will be added in a few weeks. Read at least 30 minutes nightly and record on the calendar

6 Science Science EOG Science tests will be application to real world situations. Students must be able to apply knowledge, not just memorize. Use notes and graded papers in Monday folders to study.

7 Grading Scale A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 D = 60 – 69
This school year Guilford County Schools will use a 10 point grading scale. A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 D = 60 – 69 E = Below 60 Grades will be weighted: Classwork: 20% Homework: 10% Quiz: 30% Test: 40% Don’t forget to set up/access Powerschool. It will be available for information the middle of next week.

8 Schedule and Specials:
Specials runs on a 5 day rotation. We will have one special per day. Art Library Music P.E. Tech Lab Recess: 10:20 – 10:50 Lunch: 10:55 – 11:25

9 Dress Code Shorts must be finger-tip length
Shirt sleeves must be 3 finger widths Sneakers or closed toed shoes for daily recess.

10 Field Trips Fall: Natural Science Center Fall: Slim Goodbody (Oct. 18)
Fall: Kersey Valley PTI: Weather Winter: Orchestra Spring: Charlotte Motor Speedway March : Camp Hanes

11 Attendance Notes Notes must be turned in within 3 days of an absence
Notes must be signed by parents, we cannot accept s Family emergency is not considered an excused absence, please explain Absences for trips must be approved in advance (Must describe educational experience)

12 Room Parent/Volunteers
We need a Room Parent to organize our class parties and celebrations. Are you willing to help? Volunteers are needed for a variety of things. If you have time, we can put you to work!

13 Graduation We are in need of a chair for 5th grade graduation. If you are interested, please let me know!
