7 Homework Happy Homework: Monday is Marvelous
-EVERY Monday a reading log will be sent home and EVERY Monday the reading log will be turned in. 20 minutes each night. Reading a book at your child’s Just Right reading level. -Every Monday a math facts log will be sent home and EVERY Monday the math facts log will be turned in. 10 minutes each night. Practice facts from your child’s math goal page. -Every Monday a Math 4 Today homework sent home. Every day return Math 4 Today homework. Reviewed in class. Math 4 Today assessment taken on Mondays. -Graded tests will be brought home and signed by an adult. The next day the student will return the signed test.

11 Reading: Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop
School and Home reading: -Just Right books based reading ability from our Fountas and Pinnell testing -Just Right books based on interest -will read a fiction book then switch to a nonfiction book -will join in “book chats” -when finished reading a book, will take an Accelerated Reading Test on the book to check for comprehension Terrific Topics: -Fiction: character analysis and themes -Nonfiction: text structures, summaries, Main idea and supporting details. Read Aloud Texts: -Wonder -Tiger Rising -The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

12 Wonderful Writing - Creative Writing – Lucy Calkins Writing Program
-Narrative Writing -creation of characters with internal and external traits, personal struggles, motivations, etc. -Information Writing -research Revolutionary War –events leading up to 1776 -Persuasive Writing -using our opinions and facts to persuade an audience with a chosen topic -Literary Essay -reading a text to analyze characters and themes. Create a clear thesis about the brilliant book and provide book based evidence to support the thesis.

1st: new skill taught in a whole group setting 2nd: break out into three groups: -”Teacher Talk Time” –small group to practice new skill with a teacher - “Skills Station” using math games either independently or with a partner to practice new skill just taught -”Perfect Practice” center to review fantastic facts 3rd: Whole Group – share strategies that went well or aren’t working too well Math 4 Today – review skills to keep them “fresh” -Math 4 Today homework -4 problems each night -reviewed in class -Math 4 Today assessment on Mondays
