Vehicle warm up and stabilisation – RLD and dyno WLTP-DTP-LabProcICE-221 Vehicle warm up and stabilisation – RLD and dyno JAPAN ICE lab proc meeting, 2013/04/25 This document is updated version of the slide 20 of the document ICE#186 submitted at ICE lab proc meeting in 2013 Feb.

Intermediate warming up [Image of test procedure] xx kph×30m** xx kph On Road / On Dyno Cruise Speed Initial warming up Coast Down Intermediate warming up Dyno setting On Road 80-120 * 20 minutes or more.** 5 minutes or more ** … On Dyno Accelerated by vehicle ***      3 run average **** Warming up for 5 minutes or more ****** * Same coast down speed must be used to avoid too much warmed up. ** This is simple & primary quantified requirement to stabilize the vehicle. Alternative procedure may be applied by Authorities approval providing equivalency of vehicle stabilization with the selected cruise speed. *** v*a = 6 m2/s3 (based on JARI test) **** Average of 1st - 3rd coastdown or Average of 2nd and 3rd coastdown (Watch a discussion of SAE for future amendment) ***** Continuous dyno setting procedure (with different target RL and/or Inertia weight) is OK if the warming up procedure is started within [5min] from the end of the 1st dyno set procedure.

The key is, how to set “appropriate” dyno load. Point of view The key is, how to set “appropriate” dyno load. Seeking “Stability” may lose “Appropriateness”. Even now, we do not run “Dyno load setting procedure” twice. That is why JPN propose “Fixed Run” method. By information from SAE, our proposal provides 2 choices “Average of 1st - 3rd coastdown” or “Average of 2nd and 3rd coastdown” for stability issue. 1st c.d. 2nd c.d. 3rd c.d. 4th c.d. 5th c.d. 6th c.d. …… Vehicle friction Time Vehicle warmed up condition is not changed so much. But vehicle friction is changed at each coast down. (Data may not be stabilized.) Vehicle warmed up condition is already changed, even though vehicle friction is more stabilized. (Data should be stabilized.)

Cruise speed range 80-120km/h The speed range “80-120km/h” is necessary by following reason. Applicable WLTC may not be clarified at the development stage because the specification of rated power, vehicle mass is not fixed yet, however Mfrs should prefer to use same test condition between development stage and certification stage to obtain the same test result. Applicable WLTC may be different by destination, because of applicable phase. (In case that a vehicle sold to EU and JPN, applicable WTLC is different. Therefore 2 kinds of cruise speed are calculated.) Mfrs do not want and do not need to run 2 tests for 1 model.
