What is Online Dating? Dating Service Internet Singles looking for relationships Can communicate through chat rooms, videos, emails Take relationship to the real world and meet in person (Wolf). 0nline Dating To begin, in order for someone to even use an online dating website an individual must have a device that allows them to access the internet, such as a laptop, desktop or smart phone. Online dating is a dating service that allows individuals who are looking for relationships , to interact with other individuals who are looking for relationships. This is done through the internet where people communicate through videos, emails, chat rooms and etc. However, these online dating services lead people into meeting each other out in the real world which can be very dangerous (Wolf).

Different Online Dating Sites AdultFriendFinder.com Perfectmatch.com Date.com SeniorPeople.com Match.com eHarmony Zoosk Chemistry.com Some popular online dating sites that are widely known today are: match.com, eHarmony, Zoosk, Chemistry.com, AdultFriendFinder.com, Perfectmatch.com, Date.com, and SeniorPeople.com. Some of these sites focus on a specific age group or religious belief, but not everyone who accesses those specific online dating services are really that age or even that religion.

8 Reasons why online dating is bad!!!! 1. Scammers 2. Invasion of Private Personal Information 3. Physical Risks 4. Financial Issues 5. Liars 6. Harassment and Stalking 7. Distance 8. Costly (Davidson) There are eight reasons why online dating is very dangerous and why online dating is not a good way to find a relationship. 1.So many people get scammed on online dating sites. A person may think he or she knows so much about the other person and trusts them. But the person he or she has been talking to online for a while can scam them by taking their money. 2. Invasion of Private Personal Information- when a person joins an online dating site their email, address, name, and etc is put at risk. 3. Physical Risks- Sometimes the person who you think you are going to be meeting could really be abusive or mean and could hurt you physically. 4. Financial Issues- people who lie and try and scam people of money exist on these online dating sites. Most common excuse is, “I will come see you if you send me money to get a plane ticket.” 5. Liars- People don’t fully tell the truth about themselves a lot on these online dating sites. Usually the picture they send tends to be a picture that is out dated or not even them. They could lie about their age or other things. Also, someone could say they are single and looking for a relationship and really be married and have a family. 6 Harassment and Stalking- If you meet someone online and exchange your address or phone number with them, they could stalk or harass you. They might not leave you alone and this could make you resort to calling the police and getting a restraining order. 7. Distance- sometimes the person you meet could live a very far distance away which would make it hard to maintain a relationship and see them a lot. 8 Costly- these online dating sites can start to get pretty expensive (Davidson).

Disadvantages of Online Dating Kids are seeing that adults are using these online dating sites, and they think that its okay to do it too Online Predators Exchanging online emails is not a good way of really knowing someone and feeling comfortable with them Lazy/Effortless Lack of Trust (Watson) Children are starting to see that adults they know are meeting people online, so they think it is okay to speak to strangers and meet them online. Online Predators can be on these sites Online dating is a lazy and effortless way to go and meet people, there are so many other fun and more safe ways of meeting new people and require more of an effort and not being lazy. There is no way someone can easily build trust with someone when they only met them online and rarely even know them (Watson).

Dangers of Online Dating Cont. Here are some pictures on why online dating is dangerous. The picture on the top left is a man who is robbing a safe that contains money in it. This picture is related to the dangers of online dating because individuals can find out personal information and steal money from someone by getting a hold of their credit card numbers and even opening new credit card accounts in that persons name. Not only this, but sometimes people begin to feel so comfortable with the person they have been talking to that if the person asked for money they would give it to them (Example, next slide tells of a woman who is going through bankruptcy after meeting a man on an online dating site). The picture on the top right relates to the dangers of online dating because if an individuals not careful the person they are talking to on the online dating site can get personal information out of the other individual that they should not no. Simply by just giving their name, email, phone number, area in which they live, and etc. The picture on the bottom left is a house which relates to the dangers of online dating because if someone who is using an online dating site is not careful the person they think they know so well could find out where they live and rob their house, kill them, sexually assault them, stalk or harass them. Lastly, the picture on the bottom right is two people talking and the one guy has his fingers crossed. He is lying to the other guy and the other guy seems to really believe him. Many people can lie on online dating websites, these can range from small lies to rather big lies. Someone can lie about their age, weight, hair, sex, race. But others can lie and say they are not married and really are, they could be online predators, and etc.

Online Dating Nightmare Widowed woman (Esther Ortiz-Rodeghero), thought she met her perfect match on an online dating site. The man said he was an army major general named Wayne Jackson. Wayne told Esther that his wife died in an automobile accident and that his sister wanted him to use this online dating service. Wayne and Esther were communicating everyday through emails and saying how much they loved each other. Wayne soon asked for a few hundred dollars for his son, and than a few thousands of dollars to start a business that he said Esther and him would run together (Murray). This is a story about a woman who met a man on an online dating site and she thought she really knew him and trusted him and he scammed her of all this money and now she is facing bankruptcy (Murray).

Online Dating Nightmare Cont. Esther believed Wayne and sent him the money. Esther used her life savings, her husband’s 401K and life insurance, and even took out loans. Esther then sent money to Wayne for a plane ticket to come see her, and he never showed up. Esther realized she was scammed. The woman was scammed of $500,000 and is dealing with bankruptcy (Murray). Story continued about the woman who was scammed of so much money and now is going through bankruptcy (Murray).

= Stanger Danger Online+ Dating= Danger Individuals should date the old fashion way and not resort to the internet. A person will learn way more about someone when they see them face to face in a public environment. This way, a person can be physically seen before you even decide to exchange information or conversation with them.

Conclusion Online Dating is a very risky way of dating people. Who knows if the person on the other end of the computer is really who they claim to be. People have been scammed, lied to, sexually assaulted, and killed from meeting people online. Some individuals may even already be married and act like they are not to cheat on their spouse. It is a lazy and effortless way to find true love, and hiding people from society. Overall, online dating is very dangerous and should not be used to find love, most of the time it’s all just heart break. In conclusion, online dating sites can lead to very dangerous consequences. Online dating is not a good way to meet someone because they could scam you, steal from you, lie to you, hurt you, find out personal information, and even harass and stalk you.
