Presentation transcript:

Welcome! April 9th, 2018 Monday Do Now Take a weekly Bell Ringer sheet from the front table. Once the bell rings, we’ll watch a video, and you will have five minutes to respond to the question in at least five sentences. Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

Click on the link below to watch a video clip Click on the link below to watch a video clip. Respond in writing by providing your thoughts on the following question: Which side of the argument are you on? Do you agree with Ricky Gervais or Rebecca Francis. Explain why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNleFoLOE6w © Presto Plans

EOC Boot Camp Next week, we’re going to begin state testing. This test will serve as a large portion of your grade (either part of your final or a 100 point test grade, depending on when we get results), so in order to prepare you, we’re going to complete a mini-unit that I like to call EOC Boot Camp!

EOC Boot Camp First off, let’s get you recruits prepared for placement. You should have two handouts – one with definitions and examples of terms you may find on the EOC, and another handout with matching terms. BEFORE WE BEGIN: Cut out the term cards (the cards with a gray box at the top). Make sure you do NOT cut the other handout with the examples and definitions. You have five minutes. Once you’ve cut everything out, FREEZE SOLDIER! Look up at me when you’re done.

12 Matches Master Sergeant 10+ Matches Corporal 7+ Matches Specialist 5+ Matches Private <5 Matches Basic Training

EOC Boot Camp The EOC will have lots of different passages for you to read (some fiction, some non- fiction) and will ask you different types of multiple choice questions (and one essay) about said passages. Questions can range from simple plot questions to more complex questions about symbolism, characterization, tone, figurative language, and theme.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” Let’s practice some of those more complex questions by reading and analyzing a passage typical of what you might find on the EOC. Get out your story titled “All Quiet on the Western Front.” To save time today, I’ll read to you. However, be aware that you will have to read these passages on your own on the EOC. The best way to practice this is to regularly read on your own!

On your handout, complete the army boots by answering the following questions about the story we just read.

Cool Down! For the rest of class, you have one job: Begin working on your IXL for the week: R.2 and R.4. Great work, cadets!
