We do that when we are in cyberspace too. Good manners would mean being polite, kind and helpful. It is also about being respectful and responsible. Hey! Isn’t that our school’s core values? That’s right!    Polite, kind and helpful Responsible Respect

Online courtesy Respect for Self and Others So, how do we be courteous when we are online?

1. Remember the rules of courtesy Simple. Rule number 1, Remember the rules of courtesy, which starts with a big ‘C’. That is easy.

2. Think about what you post Rule number 2, think about what you post. When we write or speak, we think through first before doing them. We do exactly the same when we are posting things online. That way, we are being sensitive to other people’s feelings. You are right. It beings with a big ‘T’

3. Respect other people’s time Rule number 3, respect other people’s time. As you know, time is precious. Do not send unnecessary big files and junk mail to people you know or you don’t. They will be wasting time opening and reading them. A big ‘T’ again.

4. Avoid flaming Number 4, avoid flaming. Do not insult, threaten or pose angry messages to others. The letter ‘F’.

5. Respect other people’s privacy Number 5, respect other people’s privacy. If you don’t want others to know your own secrets, you don’t go round telling secrets about others. That is being respectful. The big ‘P’

6. Know your audience Number 6, know your audience. The tone and the way you write and post or send messages online to a teacher and to a friend is different. So, do take note of who you are addressing to. The big ‘A’.
