AICE History I How to Write Paper 2

Paper 2 Choose two questions from a list of four. American Option – Questions 5, 6, 7, 8 Each question has a Part A & a Part B. Must answer Part A & Part B from the same questions. 90 Minutes 15 min Part A 30 min Part B

Paper 2 Part A 15 minutes - “Why” question – Read question carefully!!! Make a list of reasons why something happened (shoot for 3) Explain each reason (PEE) Point (Reason) Evidence – vocab, vocab, vocab Explanation – how did this cause…? Rank significance of reasons – “This is the most significant reason because…” OR “This was very important, however______ was more significant because …”

Paper 2 Part B Straight Essay – how much / how far / to what extent? Read the question carefully!!! 30 minutes Plan for 5 min - Make a T-chart – arguments that support & arguments that challenge Write for 25 – Start with strong thesis - a clear and focused argument Acknowledge the other side (balance) – “It can be argued that…, however, there is more evidence to suggest…” OR “Some people think that…, but we should remember that…” 2 paragraphs to support your argument 1 paragraph on the other side Show continuity & change – are things constant throughout time frame? How do they change? Conclusion that acknowledges other side but makes final argument about “How much/far”
