27 Prepositions and prepositional phrases Prepositions are words that show the relationships between a noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence. EX. A fence ran alongside the creeks. EX. Some common compound prepositions are about, according to, aside from, across from, along with, because of, far from, in front of, in place of, instead of, on account of, and on top of. Prepositional phrases Include the prepositions and the objects (nouns or pronouns) that follow the prepositions. A prepositional phrase includes the preposition and the object of the preposition, as well as any modifiers of the object. EX. The dogs ran through an empty field.
