2 Preposition Shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in a sentence. Hint: The squirrel ran (Fill in the blank) the tree. Look at the list of prepositions on page 23.

4 Prepositional Phrases
Consists of a preposition and its object. The object of a preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows a preposition. (Every preposition has an object). Examples Many early jazz bands played in New Orleans. The sounds came from a radio. During the 1920s, jazz swept the country.

5 Practice & Apply p. 25 For # 1 – 5, write each prepositional phrase and underline the preposition. Then circle the object of the preposition. Hint: Refer to prepositions on p. 23. Example 10. In an improvisation of his or her own invention
