MOTIVATION LEADER OR BOSS, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE? APRIL 2014 What is it "to be a leader"? What is the real role of the leader? Is there a difference between being a leader and a boss? How many of us hasn't asked ourselves such questions. Let's start our review defining the meaning of each word we will study. Leader, according to the Houaiss dictionary and the context we want to address, means one who attracts followers. And boss is the one who directs, governs. Look at that, by the definition, there is already a distinction between the two definitions. While the leader seeks to follow, the boss has the task of governing. Seeking the etymological meaning "the word 'líder' comes from the English "leader", which means one who guides, who commands or leadership. Consequently, the English word comes from the Germanic old "lad", which means "way". A 'ladan', or "leader", was "one who showed the way." It was the guy who guided people from one village to another. During the walk, he had as main responsibility taking care of the group but also taking care of each one." The leader can not take the LIABILITY of the members of your team and not transfer it to another member of the team, because that would be "preventing" members of his group from developing, thus "marginalizing" their participation in the team. The true leader is not concerned that by developing their team, they will be also better prepared for the market (common thought leader). The true leader knows that his way of managing will make a big difference at the time that some of your employees are thinking of leaving the company. "The real leader ADVISES meanwhile the boss ORDERS people." "The leader INSPIRES ENTHUSIASM while the boss INSPIRES FEAR", the boss conducts its governance with threats by the hallways or "gossip". "The leader says US and the boss says ME," usually it appropriates other people's ideas and sells them as theirs (usually, a boss tries to "implode" parallel leaderships in order to avoid threat). "The leader is concerned about the PEOPLE and the boss cares about IDEAS". "The leader PROVIDES laurels while the boss REAP the rewards." "The leader has a TEAM and the boss, a GROUP OF PEOPLE." A group of people usually do not have culture alignment and philosophy, when it gets rough, each one will defend their interests. In the other hand, a team has the natural tendency to find a way that enables the solution to the whole. "The leader AIMS TOMORROW, while the boss SEES TODAY". The boss wants to meet your everyday task and finish the day with the feeling that tomorrow is a new day, but the leader is concerned with perpetuating its actions to try to ensure tomorrow. MOTIVATION LEADER OR BOSS, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE? APRIL 2014 Below we have some clear examples of leadership: The leader has the function to align the interests of senior management with the interests and expectations of employees. Thus it becomes an art form to carry on the communication between these extremes. This MUST be done with ethics, rationality and truth. "The leader is an individual who misses and hits, but your hit balance will always be higher.“ They always take the leading role (usually the boss takes the victim position), which makes them more exposed and vulnerable to "envious people." The leader knows that its success depends on the cooperation of all so they seek to inspire its employees to be the foundation of their step to success in order to keep themselves at the "top of the structure" for as long as possible. "A leader is important because employees do not bind the company, but to the people from whom they hear a word of support or a grunt of intolerance." The leader is different from the boss because the boss does not allow his subordinates to have ideas, while the leader allows everyone to have them and knows how to take advantage of them, that is, the boss imposes his will, the leader conquers. See that nowadays in our organizations, we still have bosses but we need leaders. " So, which way do you want to walk?
