Inter-Regional Workshop on Improving Agrometeorological Bulletins Inter-Regional Workshop on Improving Agrometeorological Bulletins, Bridgetown, Barbados (Oct 2001). Attended by 25 experts from 21 countries. Participants developed the concept of a centralized web server for agrometeorological products. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Global Web Server for Agrometeorological Products Recognizing the need for improved access to agrometeorological products by members, CAgM initiated a project to enhance the use of Internet technology for agricultural weather applications. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Expert Group Meeting on Internet Applications for Agrometeorological Products Expert Group Meeting on Internet Applications for Agrometeorological Products, Washington, D.C. (May 2002). Attended by 12 experts from 7 countries. Experts developed a plan to implement a centralized web server to host: National Agrometeorological Bulletins Agrometeorological Advisories Agrometeorological Training Modules 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Benefits of WAMIS to Members WAMIS helps members to disseminate and improve their agro meteorological products. As a dedicated web server, it allows countries to place their agrometeorological bulletins and advisories on a near real-time basis. Provides tools and resources to help members improve the quality and presentation of their agrometeorological bulletins. Provides a central location for agrometeorological information so that members can quickly and easily evaluate the various bulletins. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

WAMIS Accomplishments Operational as of Nov 2003 Over 95 countries have responded to SG letter requesting Focal Points Bulletins and/or web links for 12 countries Mirror servers (Italy & South Korea) operational as of Jan 2004 Over 1400 total web visits as of May 2004 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Current Status WAMIS went operationally online during the end of November 2003. The products of from 18 countries are available. Albania, Italy, EU, and India are expected to be added in the next few weeks. The two mirror servers are operational. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Current Status A letter from the SG went to all PR’s requesting nominations for WAMIS Focal Points in December 2003. 99 WAMIS Focal Points have been received as of October 2004. There are approximately 140 CAgM members in the WMO, so about 70% of the countries have already sent in their nominations. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Current Status Only two or three countries have specified that they cannot participate in WAMIS. Of those countries responding, about 50% do not have a web page or do not have their agrometeorological products on the Internet. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org

Current Status To date, all Focal Points have been sent an introductory email and 40 have responded to these emails (28% of CAgM members). Four countries sent in Focal Point forms without an email address. 2/2/2019 WAMIS - www.wamis.org
