About RA II Pilot Project History The 14th session of WMO Regional Association II （ XIV- RA II), held in Tashkent December 2008, adopted a resolution to establish Pilot Project for the development of support for NMHSs in satellite data, products and training. After XIV-RA II, the WMO Secretariat invited WMO Members to join the Pilot Project Coordinating Group. VLMG-6: RA II Pilot Project 2

VLMG-6: RA II Pilot Project 13 Final Report Two members responded that there was slight decrease in data access There were needs for analogue data obtained from the internet There were strong needs for the data from Research and Development and other environmental satellites (TRMM, NPP etc) A stronger product processing capability is needed It can be said that satellite data users in RA II are highly interested in monitoring dust and ocean currents A large scale of training, the support of E-learning in satellite meteorology by WMO and the regular training were required 5. Terms of reference of the Coordinating Group (a)To identify the requirements of NMHSs of developing countries, and in particular least developed countries in the Region, regarding satellite imagery, data and products in support of their weather services, including forecasts and warnings; (b) To develop a brief and effective action plan, taking into account the relevant existing activities, for consortium members and recipient Members; (c) To facilitate communication between centres willing to develop the required products and recipient Members; (d) To organize assistance to recipient Members in accessing and utilizing available satellite imageries, data and products, as a first priority through training; (e) To monitor the progress of the project; VLMG-6: RA II Pilot Project 17
