Presentation transcript:

In Year 3 we will be learning to: Term: Autumn 1 Spoken Language: Express view-points, participate in discussions, role play, and evaluate different viewpoints. Writing: Write in a variety of styles including riddles, fact files and persuasion texts. Engage: Engage and develop the children’s experience with two wild visitors in their classroom- a scorpion and a bearded dragon. Maths: Further develop number sense and explore calculation strategies, place value and graphs. Computing: Create food chains using PowerPoint and uploading pictures and using shapes and text boxes. Science: Identify producers, consumers and predators and how food chains work. Explore the life cycle of flowering plants and the different functions of each part of the plant. PE: Focus on static balance and co-ordination through the ‘Real PE’ curriculum. Our topic is Predators In Year 3 we will be learning to: Geography: Name the countries and continents of the world, looking at the habitats of predators and what makes them suitable. Innovate: Design the ultimate predator using our knowledge from the topic. We will be designing where they will need to live, their diet and make models of our predators using different mediums. Express: We will be inviting parents and carers in to celebrate this topic, we look forward to presenting our new predators to you. PSHE: Learn about healthy lifestyles - keeping clean and healthy, celebrating achievements and understanding feelings. Music: Learn to play as an ensemble in the Gamelan Orchestra (a musical instrument from Indonesia). Art: Sketch animals from different parts of the food chain. Identify interesting aspects of objects as a starting point for work. D.T Create our own ultimate predator and bring them to life from different mediums.

Things to explore with your child… PE: Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. As the winter months approach please include longer layers in PE kits so that your child can comfortably take part in all activities. Reading: Try reading a variety of text types with your child, including fiction and non-fiction, this will support them with their spelling, writing and comprehensions skills. Library day this term will take place on Friday. You will be pleased to know that reading passports will be given out soon to support your child’s reading at home. Writing: Children have enjoyed writing riddles and could write their own riddle at home about their favourite animal. As our topic is about predators this half term, the children could write a short diary entry from the viewpoint of the predator or its prey. They may also like to continue their work on fact files and create a guide for an animal of their choice. Creative Zone: Use junk modelling to make your own predator. Create a food chain that includes your favourite animal. Sketch a predator in a suitable environment. Papier-mâché an ultimate predator. Maths: We are focusing on number bonds to 20 at the moment so it is the perfect opportunity to practise some quick recall. Such as 15 + 5 = 20. It would also be helpful to practise addition and subtraction equations using a method of their choice. Dates: Topic Celebration 16th October 2018 at 2:30pm Parents Evening 17th and 18th October 2018 Weekly practise: Along with your child’s reading passport, we will be making homework books for both literacy and mathematics. We will be sending home texts with relevant page numbers for your child to complete tasks which link to their learning in class.
