(Psalm 139) On the 13th November we are going to have a one day exhibition with Year 4 of our work for you to come and see! This half term Year 1 will be learning all about ourselves and our families.

RE We will be learning all about our families and how God cares and loves for every family. We will look at Psalm 16, 28 and 63 and discuss God’s love for us. We will be talking about belonging and consider the different groups we belong to. We will look at Baptism. We will talk to the children about what happens and the significance of being welcomed into God’s family. We will be learning about Judaism, looking at the family of Abraham. You could help your child by: Talk about the different groups they belong to. Talking about their Baptism.

Writing We will be learning the story of Titch, ‘You’ll soon grow into it’. The children will help us change the story before writing their own version of Titch. We will write poems based on ‘Mama Do You Love Me?’ - Children will be thinking about terrible things they have done wrong! With responses from Mum about how much she loves them. We will be creating a Fact File about ourselves, containing lots of fun information. We will be writing to invite you to our exhibition, sometime after half term. Speaking and Listening We will be sharing our ‘All About Me’ bags with the class just before half term. We will need to be able to talk about and explain our items for no more than 5 minutes. Reading and Phonics We will be continuing with ReadWriteInc. We will be reading Titch stories and Alfie and Annie-Rose stories. You could help your child to: Learn the story. Tell you the story. Caption Practice their ‘All About Me’ bag speech.

Maths - Number We will be developing our knowledge of place value and our numbers to 20 and beyond. We will use number lines to add by counting on. We will use numbers lines to count back when taking away. We will try and use our knowledge of addition and subtraction to answer simple word problems. We will look at two numbers and decide which one is more or less. We will be looking at what is 1 more or 1 less than a given number. Topic Maths We will be making pictograms of our favourite foods. We will be making bar-charts of our hair and eye colour. We will be comparing and measuring our height. Shape, Space and Measures Shape - naming 2D and 3D shapes. Symmetry - making symmetrical patterns. You could help your child to: Write the numbers to 20. Caption Look for patterns

We will be labelling parts of our body. We will be exploring our senses - sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. We will be considering how we change from babies to now. We will think about the skills we have now compared to when we were a baby. We will explore the season of Autumn and look at the changes that are taking place around us. Computing We will be learning about the different parts of a computer. We will learn that computers need human interaction. We will be developing our mouse skills using different programs such as Tizzy and 2DIY. We will be using Microsoft Office to develop our word processing skills. We will change the size, colour and font of text. You could help your child to: Talk about different body parts. Caption Talk about how they have changed from a baby.

We will be producing self-portraits. We will be looking at complimentary colours. We will be looking at the artwork of Andy Warhol and create pictures in his style. We will be creating 3D clay models of ourselves. History We will be looking at the changes that have happened in our life time - the toys that we have played with. We will be comparing our toys with those that our parents and grandparents have played with. We will be using the language of chronology - now, then, past, present and future. We will look at how things change, develop and sequence over a period of time, eg. A day, a week or a lifetime. DT We will be looking at how to display work. We will be investigating how picture frames work. We will design and make our own picture frame. You could help your child to: Talk about the sequence of their day or week. PE We will be focusing on developing our core skills of agility, balance and co-ordination. Music We will be exploring different sounds and learning to describe them. We will be learning to recognise different sounds and instruments in the music we listen to. You could help your child to: Spend some quiet time listening to music.
