Operational Status of GIS Offenbach Bernd Richter, DWD bernd.richter@dwd.de Markus Heene, DWD markus.heene@dwd.de

WIS WMO Information System GISC OFFENBACH RTH OFFENBACH NC Israel NC Jordan NC Switzerland

Area of Responsibility „Principal GISC“ Offenbach GISC Offenbach AoR NC 27 chart left plus Kenya DCPC acting as RTH Norrköping, Prague, Vienna, Sofia, Rome DCPC external Eumetsat Arctic Data Center PANGAEA + other DCPC internal GPCC (Precipitation) NCC (National Climate)

Services offered to all Centers in its AoR Basic GISC Functions - Data Collection and Dissemination - Backup Procedures for Data Collection and Dissemination Monitoring - Web-based Monitoring Tools of / for all Centers in ist AoR - Data volume / number of bulletins - Data availability (missing bulletins) - Data formal quality (corrupt BUFR) - Data

Services offered to all Centers in its AoR continued Metadata Management - Metadata Generator (INPUT: WMO AN-File) - Metadata Editor - Metadata Monitor - Metadata Amendment Service Metadata of AoR monitored for missing metadata Missing data created and made available to AoR

Services offered to all Centers in its AoR continued Capacity building GISC Offenbach keeps its AoR ‚In the loop‘ by - Regular Telephone Conferences - Workshops next planned with Austria (+Slovenija +Croatia), Italy, Jordan - Bilateral Support (metadata, data acquisition) - Quarterly Download tests at Backup GISC Moscow / Tokyo

Monitoring of / for Centers of Area of Responsibility

Monitoring Global Data Exchange GB TI Pläne 2015

24 / 7 Operations

Graphical User Interface GUI Features Search & Retrieval Subscription by selection of data by import of external lists Preview of Data BUFR, GRIB, MOS Metadata Editor Notizen: Search and Retrieval, Subscription, Data preview

Goal of backup Procedures: No service interruption in case of outage of single NC / DCPC / GISC 6.2.3 Each GISC should maintain business continuity plans and handover arrangements to ensure continued service to the NCs and DCPCs in its area of responsibility, especially for the collection and distribution of data and products. 6.3.2 Data collection and distribution must continue without interruption to and from centres in the GISC area being backed up. Where a centre's routine receipt of data is through subscription (e.g. GTS push), the backup GISC must have a current list of data to be sent to each centre or provide a place for the centres to come and get the data (e.g. GISC Cache).

Scenario 1 – Direct connected Centre (data collection) Direct connected centres should upload direct to the backup GISC MeteoSwiss DWD Backup GISC JMA Preferred upload: Continuous upload also in standard operation Examples: Switzerland, Jordan and Israel

Scenario 2 – Indirect connected Centre (data collection) NC Norway DWD Backup GISC JPN / RUS RTH / DCPC Norrköping RTH/DCPC uploads data of its AoR to GISC and Backup-GISC

Data dissemination Backup GISC JMA DWD RTH Bangkok NC Cambodia GISC Offenbach offers a FTP for centres in GISC Tokyo Area of Responsibility GISC Offenbach offers a web-based subscription service defining its own basket for activation of delivery in case of backup

Data collection - Summary In case of outage of Principal GISC, all data of its AoR are available in the Backup GISC In case of outage of Principal GISC, all data of directly connected centers are available in the Backup GISC In case of outage of RTH/DCPC , all data of its AoR are available in the principal GISC In case of outage of Principal GISC, all centers of its AoR get their data from the Backup GISC All centers are invited to take part in a quarterly backup download test. Not covered in backup procedure: Metadata management, change of GTS subscription
