ISO 14000 Overview

What is ISO 14000? ISO 14000 is a series of environmental Management standards The standards were designed to help companies - Develop effective effective environmental management systems In today’s world, you must be environmentally aware

- Improve environmental performance - Demonstrate sound environmental management practices

- Standards were created by the International Organization for Standardization - The U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) developed the U.S. Position on the ISO 14000 documents How Standard came to be--Part maker in Europe wanted to sell bolts to OEM--Bolts were more expensive due to environmental concerns

ISO 14001- A specification standard that cites requirements for implementing and maintaining EMS. Organizations become registered to this standard. ISO 14004- Guidance document

Links between ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 Both are voluntary standards. Both are management standards- do not establish required performance levels. Both are designed for internal use- registration requires a third-party audit. Both are generic in nature so that they can be applied across the board to organizations of all types and sizes.

Benefits of ISO 14000 Helps organizations meet and maintain regulatory and legislative requirements Minimizes the environmental impact of products, activities, and resources. Promotes environmental awareness

Documentation Structure
