Environmental Management System or EMS is a framework to manage and prioritize our environmental compliance and stewardship efforts
Modeled after the International Standard ISO and we have maintained certification to that standard since 2007
Guided by our Environmental Policy which was approved by the Port Commission in 2004

6. Compliance & Pollution Prevention
Regularly review our operations and activities for potential environmental impacts and advise on regulatory requirements
Utilize a construction activities checklist for construction projects
Have technical specifications and Port User, Contractors, and Vendors EMS requirements documents
Compliance Evaluation Program to help ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations
Environmental Management Programs established for significant environmental aspects which then become Best Management Practices upon full implementation

Set objectives and targets for making reductions
Spills – reduced by 75% since 2008
Electrical Consumption – purchase 10% green energies and reduction from 2012 in over 2MIL KWHs
Water Consumption – reduced consumption from 2012 by over 3MIL gallons
Recycling program port wide since 2006
Budgeted items for 2014 aimed at environmental stewardship: Growing Greener Initiative, Environmental Enhancement Strategy for Bulk Terminal
Gulf Ports Environmental Summit hosted annually
