The Metric System Objective 5-4: SWBAT convert between metric units.

Metric System The standard system of measurement used by scientists around the world. It is different than the English system we use in the U.S. (pounds, inches, etc.).

Base Units The metric unit for length is meters (m) The metric unit for mass is grams (g) The metric unit for volume is liters (l)

Prefixes=Subunits The word before the measurement (prefixes) is a subunit This tells you how much of a meter, liter or gram you have IMPORTANT: these prefixes can be used with ANY measurement.

Examples Convert 1000 mg to g. Convert 1 liter to milliliters.

Practice Convert 52 meters to kilometers. Convert 7.31 grams to centigrams.
