Apathy after Hit-and-Run Strikes a Nerve in China

How does this story make you feel? Why don’t people help?

Bystander Effect

Be Proactive! There are three types of people: People who make things happen People who watch things happen People who wonder “What happened?” Which of these is proactive? Which of these is you?

“You have control over three things: what you think, what you say, and how you behave. To make a change in your life, you must recognize these gifts are the most powerful tools you possess in shaping for form of your life.” --Sonya Friedman

Be Proactive—You’re In Charge. I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.

Brainstorm… What situations can you think of where you need to be proactive and do the right thing, even if no one is watching? Is it always easy to do the right thing?

What Would You Do? Write a paragraph or a poem that answers these questions: What would you do? How would you feel? How would the other people feel? You are walking through the hall in middle school next year. You see a kid you don’t know who looks very sick. You are about to be late for class. What do you do?
