Doral Academy Open House AP Comparative Government and World History

Educational and Professional Information Bachelor Degree - FIU Master Degree - Nova Southeaster University Florida Certified in Social Studies 6-12 College board Certified in AP World and European History Teaching for a total of 13 years Doral Academy – 3rd year!

Class Description Government World History The AP course in Comparative Government and Politics introduces students to fundamental concepts used by political scientists to study the processes and outcomes of politics in a variety of country settings. The course aims to illustrate the rich diversity of political life, to show available institutional alternatives, to explain differences in processes and policy outcomes, and to communicate to students the importance of global political and economic changes. Comparison assists both in identifying problems and in analyzing policymaking. World History This course pertains to the world's civilizations. It will expose the learners to historical facts regarding the ancient and classical civilizations of Africa, Asia, and Europe. Students will learn various aspects which will cover economics, geography, politics, and religion/philosophy. Students will also study methods of historical inquiry and how to analyze primary and secondary historical documents. 

AP Comparative Government . Grading Scale and Homework Policy 15% Classwork/Homework/Participation 25 % Quiz/Projects/Essays 50 % Test Homework assigned in class. If not turned in student receives a Zero (Z). Late assignments will not be accepted unless due to an excused absents or emergency. Classroom Expectations: All students are required to be on time to class bring supplies necessary to be successful in the classroom. Students must be respectful to both their peers and their teacher. Discussion in class and differences of opinions must be respected at all times. Students must be dressed in the appropriate uniform. When arriving cellphones must be deposited in the cellphone bin. No cell phone usage will be allowed in class unless being used for a class assignment and specifically allowed by the teacher.

Student Safety New Doral Academy Student ID Safety Requirement: As part of the new school safety initiative, beginning the week of September 17 Doral Academy students are required to wear their student ID as part of their school uniform. Any student without their school ID will not be allowed to go to class.  They will be given a new ID with a $5.00 obligation fee before going to their next period.

Additional Class Information and Clubs Secondary Reading - Books Additional book will be assigned in October required by Doral Academy AP Comparative Government and Politics: An Essential Coursebook, 7th ed by Ethel Wood Current Event – World History Students will be required to submit current event assignments weekly. Article and summary of article is to be turned in once a week. Instructions and due dates will be discussed in class since it varies by period. Current Event – AP Comparative Government Will begin once case studies are introduced in the second sememter.
