Cold War 2 Containment Policy- U.S. Policy, prevent communism from spreading to new countries America, France, Great Britain attempt to unify and create a Western German government Soviet Union does not want Germany to be split into 2, Soviet mounts blockade of West Berlin (food and supplies forbidden to enter) America responds with the Berlin Airlift, deliver 2.3 million tons of supplies over 10 month period, Soviet Union lifts blockade

Cold War 2 In 1949, Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) was formed, a month later German Democratic Republic (East Germany) was created Soviet Union explodes first atomic bomb in 1949, leads to an arms race- building up of armies and weapons (atomic) to have more than your enemy
