Industrial Revolution The change in the methods of producing goods-from hand tools at home to machines and factories

Nationalism A feeling of pride in one’s country and a desire for its independence

Enlightenment A philosophical movement, primarily of the 1700’s, that was characterized by reason and experience

Scientific Revolution A time when scientists began to rely on observation of the natural world

Napoleonic code The French legal system based on Enlightenment ideas, set up during Napoleon’s rule-everyone was treated equally under the law.

Imperialism The effort of a nation to create an empire of colonies

English Bill of Rights Acts passed by Parliament in 1689 guaranteeing certain rights of English people and limiting the power of the monarch.

What did John Locke think government should be based on? An agreement between the ruler and the people-if the people were unhappy the government should be replaced.

What were some positive outcomes from the Industrial Revolution? More people were able to move into the middle class. The Industrial Revolution spread to other nations in Europe and to the United States. The amount and variety of goods available to regular people increased More jobs were created

What do you know about William and Mary? They had to accept the English Bill of Rights in order to assume the throne. When they accepted the English Bill of Rights Britain became a constitutional monarchy, which means the monarchs had to share power with parliament.
