El Rodeo’s Enhanced Dress Code “Dressing for Success!”

The Policy is Founded on Three Central Goals: Rational The Policy is Founded on Three Central Goals:

1. Our district and school site LCAP plans for student achievement include goals to ensure a greater level of student connectedness to their school community. Students wearing their school colors will feel a greater connection to their school. Policy provides for students being allowed to wear their club shirts including Science Olympiad, Math Club, Band, Orchestra, Choir and Student Council. All El Rodeo spirit-wear sold by the PTA are permitted under the policy. Data will be collected in the form of the Healthy Kids Survey and site level student surveys to determine the success of this goal.

2. We would like to significantly reduce the instance of students reporting bullying and discipline referrals on campus over the next year. Students report that they have been or witnessed others being picked on because of what they are wearing. The enhanced dress code “Levels the Playing Field” for our all students who might be from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. Data will also be presented from the Healthy Kids Survey administered to all students in grades 5 and 7. Quantified by a comparison of data for these areas between the 2014-15 and the 2015-16 school years.

3. We would like to turn the focus at our school toward academic achievement and student scholarship. This policy will help in reducing the distractions away from academic achievement. We believe that this policy will reduce the instance of students arriving late to school, often times because they are struggling with what to wear. This is particularly true in the middle school. Policy will target student attention toward curricular and school related endeavors and away from how they are dressed and or perceived by others. Students often press the limits of the less structured dress code as outlined by board policy.
