2 Dress Code: 1. Shirts for all students should be collared polo-style shirts with long or short sleeves in the appropriate school color options listed below: -White, navy blue, or light blue 2. Shirttails must be worn in at all times except during physical education classes. 3. Students may wear turtleneck or round-necked shirts of school colors under the polo-style shirt. 4. All types of uniform pants and skirts must have no more than four pockets and be belted or well fitted at the waist. Styles and color options are listed below: -Navy blue or tan dress pants -Navy blue or tan dress capris -Navy blue or tan knee-length shorts, skirts, or skorts 5. Sweatshirts or sweaters of appropriate size and school color may be worn on top of the collared polo-style shirt during periods of cooler weather. 6. Cargo pants, low-riders, or any type of denim does not meet the expectations of the dress code. 7. Shoes and coats are not a part of the dress code. Students are encouraged to wear appropriate coats and shoes of choice to school.

3 Dress Code Continued: The following specific regulations also apply to Southern Nash Middle students: 1.         Hats, caps, and sunglasses are not to be worn inside the building. Any kind of head cover is to be removed when the student enters the building and placed in the student’s locker. “Do” Rags and bandanas are not to be worn to school. Abnormal hair color is not allowed. 2.         No clothing is allowed to be worn inside-out or backwards. Also, students may not roll up pant legs. Students should not have “sagging” pants. Belts need to be buckled and worn at the waistline. 3.         Undergarments are not to be visible. (Student’s pant legs are not to be tucked into their socks.) 4.         “Grills”, lip rings, eye rings, etc. are not to be worn. 5.         The use of make-up, combs, hair picks, etc. should not be used during class time.

5 Classroom Tidbits Since we only have one hour in class students work from the moment they walk in to the moment it is time to go. Students are expected begin their warm up (core bites) it is a weekly participation grade. Students already know the importance of coming in ready to learn since this is Their most important job as student. Students are also aloud to make corrections on graded assignments.

8 Math Workshop Students will experience a variety of learning styles in this classroom. They include: Traditional lecture and note taking Interactive Math Journaling Stations Group activities Independent work

9 10% Homework/Participation
Students will have homework almost every night. Homework in middle school is different than elementary. Homework consists of unfinished work, studying, projects, and digits assignments (most work assigned to be completed at home will have at least a week before it is due. 11 PowerSchool PowerSchool is a pearson program that our state has adopted for storing student information and grades. Students can access this at anytime and see their grades for all classes at: my.ncedcloud.org. All students have been set up in this and should know how to login. Parents also have an account. To login go to nrms.powerschool.com/public **Parents can get login information from Wanda Murph in the front office. You must have your drivers license. If you registered before use the same info as before.

12 Pitsco Stem Lab Our school is one of two lucky schools in our district who was granted the Pitsco Stem Lab grant. Only a few of these are in the state. Pitsco partnered with NRMS to build a stem lab where students can learn life skills to become globally competitive. This lab is an elective and hopefully all 6th graders will experience this lab by the time they reach, 8th grade.
