Start of a War

If only a strong leader would come along and promise us help. In 1930s, nations around the world faced a depression. They looked for leaders to help solve their problems. Vote for me! If only a strong leader would come along and promise us help.

A ruler who has total control of a country and its people. Dictator A political system in which the government controls all aspects of life. Fascism

Strong Leaders Arose Hirohito- Japan Adolf Hitler- Germany These countries formed an alliance and were called the Axis Powers. Benito Mussolini- Italy

Other Leaders Joseph Stalin- Soviet Union Winston Churchill- Great Britain These countries formed an alliance and were called the Allied Powers.

At first, United States believed in isolationism and stayed out of the war. Franklin Delano Roosevelt- United States

Remember the Treaty of Versailles??? Germans were punished. Adolf Hitler promised he could solve the countries problems and started the Nazi Party. Hitler controlled everything. He started building up a powerful army. Swastika, the Nazi symbol

Germany’s Plan Hitler wanted to make Germany a strong nation so he started taking over neighboring countries. Countries Germany took over: Austria Czechoslovakia Allied Powers told Germany to stop… Stop taking things that aren’t yours! But I want it!!! German Troops parade in Czechoslovakian town.

Germany signed agreement to not invade any more countries, but… They broke it. Germany invaded Poland.

Germany invades neighboring countries. Italy and Japan declare war on Allies. Allies make Germany sign agreement. Germany invades neighboring countries. Allies declare war on Germany. Germany invades Poland, breaking treaty
