An initiative that makes a difference Shifting Paradigms in Global Health and Education Research consortium involving UNESCO, WHO, International Research Institutions and Networks, Private Entities, Enterprises and Local Communities < previous > next

Contents Changing global context of health and education Research challenges The Global Health and Education UNESCO Chair and UNITWIN network What we hope to realize through the Chair The value of the Chair The business model for the Chair < previous > next

The need for a paradigm shift The background < previous > next

Background to the Chair – changing mandate of health for schools and communities Health & education • Need for sustainable development • Epidemiological transition • Globalization • Demographic change • Emerging medical and lifestyle technologies < previous > next

Children and young people A focus on the life ecosystem of children and young people Health, social and educational sectors Family Children and young people Schools Community Contributing to shape the world of tomorrow < < previous previous > > next next

What do we know from research data? Research shows single shot interventions, information only, stigmatisation or moralisation has no positive impact. What makes a difference is combining: action on the living conditions that influence health, the life ecosystems of the populations: the physical and social environment, the access to appropriate services (health, social, educational). education of people: everybody will get the means to take care of their own health in a autonomous and responsible way. < previous > next

Three key challenges for research • Designing and evaluating meaningful intervention research initiatives • Understanding the implementation process • Ethical issues • Research paradigms Three key challenges for research Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

The Global Health and Education UNESCO Chair and UNITWIN network The UNESCO & UNITWIN programme enhances the capacity of higher education & research institutions through the exchange and sharing of knowledge at a global level. Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

The need for a paradigm shift The UNESCO chair: a knowledge hub < previous > next

Objectives of the Chair The aim is to strengthen the relationship between universities, policy makers, practitioners and civil society. Via universities’ core business: contribution to knowledge base (research) knowledge dissemination and capacity building (MOOCs, training programmes, fact sheets…) Via a strong connexion with UN agencies and existing networks < previous > next

Objectives of the Chair And make a contribution to policy and practice development by: acting as an umbrella to developing international research initiatives building on local research (NCDs and implementation) strengthening capacity building through academic programmes and research, contribution to literature for field practitioners, what works in what contexts interrogating evidence and present evidence in a way people in the field understand translating the research evidence into practice and policy < previous > next

Local-digital sustainable interventions Renewing the approaches: our vision 1 Local-digital sustainable interventions Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

The need for a paradigm shift Strengthening the data base < previous > next

Communication about publications, resources, intervention tools Research “Knowledge production” • Development of an epistemological and ethical frameworks • Intervention research initiatives Communication “Knowledge sharing” • Visibility of the chair and the research field Communication about activities and research data produced by the partners Communication about publications, resources, intervention tools Education “Capacity building” • Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) • International training programs Management of the Chair “Creation of a community” • Mapping • Community management • Fundraising • Board of trustees < previous > next

Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health Added value A strategic resource for knowledge production, knowledge transfer, capacity building and political counselling at the global level. Its specific contribution will be a “driving force” for the networks offering “think tank” “knowledge-hub” “bridge building” capacities spanning academia, international networks, institutions, professional communities, unions, and local communities, operating at macro and micro levels of policy and practice. Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health Added value A unique network of universities involved in research and training in prevention and health education (public health, political sciences, education…) The United Nations label: UNESCO, WHO A initiative involving the key stakeholders at global and national levels especially international networks (IUHPE, SHE network, ESN, EUPHA, Eurohealthnet..) Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

Added value for the partners Recognition Visibility Advocacy Up-scaling research Intersectorality Dissemination Collaboration Inspiration Support Funding schemes < previous > next

The need for a paradigm shift The business model < previous > next

Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health Business model The activities of the “Global Health and Education” UNESCO chair and UNITWIN network are funded in kind through the core budget of the University via resources mobilized through the new “Foundation for Research on Education and Health” (FoREH). The support of private companies comes from multiple competing sources in order to avoid any conflict of interest. via a range of services and products offered by the Chair. Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

Deliverables - initial targets A framework for research in the field (epistemology and ethics) An international research initiative A multilingual free online open course (MOOC) for education, social and health professionals linking existing academic programmes of the universities and their continuous professional development programmes Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next

Deliverables - initial targets The publication of series of multilingual fact sheets on the scientific data available A map of the research centres, students and academics ; support for the development of research teams in low income regions Connecting knowledge, taking on children’s health < previous > next
