There are three kinds of verbals: Gerunds Infinitives Participles

A Gerund is a verbal that ends in ing and acts as a noun. Gerunds A Gerund is a verbal that ends in ing and acts as a noun. Gerunds may be subjects, predicate nouns, indirect objects, direct objects, and objects of prepositions. DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT THESE WORDS MEAN?

A Quick Review (Subject) Subject- What the sentence is about. Example: The cow ate grass.

A Quick Review- Predicate Noun Predicate Noun- A word that follows a linking verb and renames the subject. Example: She is my cow.

A Quick Review (Direct Object) Direct Objects- A word that receives the action of the sentence. Example: Fred ate the cow.

A Quick Review (Indirect Object) Indirect Object- A word that tells who or what received the action. Example: Fred gave the cow some water.

A Quick Review (Object of the Preposition) Object of a Preposition- A word following the preposition that completes the meaning. Example: We talked to the cow.
