2013 workshop on Waste Policy Implementation May 2013 Copenhagen

During 2011 in Albania has been approved the low On Integrated Waste Management In our country we have a Plane for Waste Management and we present below our main challenges in implementing waste management plans.

Improvement of institutional infrastructure Cooperation between central and local institutions Prevention of negative impacts of waste generation and management on human health and the environment

Limiting waste production and promote the use of waste as a source of recycling and recovery Commitment of all stakeholders interested in waste management

One of the main barriers, is not done establishment and operation of waste management system Waste management infrastructure is amortized There is no a collaboration between central and local structures for waste management

In rural areas is not offered the service of waste collection and disposal and people are responsible for their removal and disposal Local authorities do not provide the necessary funds for investment

The implementation of these challenges must begin with prevention and waste minimization (currently are taken few initiatives) Recycling ( In our country currently are some private recycling companies that collect, process different types of waste: scrap, paper, plastic, textile, used tires.)

Waste management, composting,Incineration for energy production (Currently there are no plants to composting biodegradable waste) Waste disposal in landfill ( In our country we have only the landfill in Bushat- Shkoder and Sharre -Tirane)

Awareness of people for selective separation and collection of waste Approval of local and regional plans integrated waste management by local governments Construction of the plant for processing of solid urban waste

Renovation of infrastructure for waste management The transport vehicles repaired or replaced with new ones if it does not work To increase the number of containers

Construction of the plant for processing of solid urban waste Preparation for regional plans Public information leaflets
