What is the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey? Survey of postgraduate research students across the UK* Commissioned by the Higher Education Academy Fully supported by our Students’ Union and the National Union of Students Quick and easy to complete. * 114 institutions participating in 2017

What will the PRES ask me? Widely recognised as a key measure of the student experience, the survey looks at a range of areas including: Supervision Resources Research Culture Progress and Assessment Responsibilities Research Skills Professional development Opportunities Overall Experience And at the University of Bath you we also ask you some additional questions on: GW4 Induction Professional Doctorates Technology Enhanced Learning Development & Support for GTAs Peer Mentoring Academic skills Student Support and Welfare Students’ Union & Student Vocie

How are the results used? Institutions (& their Students’ Unions) are provided with the anonymised data to help them identify areas where they are doing well, as well as areas for development, for the purpose of improving the student learning experience for future generations of researchers. Our Staff / Student Liaison Committees (SSLCs) work with Faculties and the School to develop Action Plans based on the results.

Working together, we are Better@Bath! As a result of what previous students have said, and through working together, we are Better@Bath! Since the last PRES in 2015 in the University and Students’ Union we have : Introduced a new Postgraduate Officer in the Students’ Union Developed new facilities for postgraduate students including graduate commons in 10 West Improved the induction process and have created a University Handbook for research students. We’re also utilising feedback alongside ongoing consultation to shape the new Doctoral College. Ensured that an annual report with recommendations for action from the Students’’ Union on PGR issues collated from all the PGR SSLCs is heard at the highest level each autumn You can click through to the different areas of enhancement via the links and add your own programme or departmental examples
