SEPTEMBER 30 / OCTOBER 1 PRESENTATIONS Graded design review 50/50 split between student/instructor See questions that you will be graded on If you send me presentation before Sunday, September 28, I will review it and give specific feedback Presentation requirements: 30 minutes each: ~25 minute presentation, ~ 5 minutes for questions Minimize time on project overview and motivation: ~1-2 minutes Title slide: 1 slide Project goal and objectives: 1 slide Project or component specifications and metrics: 2-3 slides List the models and calculations that you need to examine over the course of the project: 2 slides Maximize time on modeling/calculations/analysis/results of overall system or an individual system(s). Get into detail – no more ‘hand waving type arguments’ and what you present should be solid Use diagrams and schematics – not just words Examples: free body diagrams, power and energy balances (budgets), etc. Show the equations that you use and how they relate to each other Clearly state how results are used in the context of your design Show any hardware that you have designed or built Show any components that you have selected (and why) Follow-up accountability: Fellow students will write down any questions during presentation regarding specific slides (make sure slides are numbered). Write down any question that you orally ask. Questions will be distributed to each team and each team will have one week to answer them. Answer what you feel are good questions Discuss why you think that bad questions are not appropriate or misunderstood 12/7/2018 MAE 4291: Senior Design 1

UPDATE PRESENTATION FEEDBACK COMMENTS Double check what you are calling a goal vs. objective vs. requirements Example: “CFD Model” is not an objective Example: “MATLAB Model” is not an objective Be clear as to who is setting requirements and why or where they came from Any pictures or figures that are not your own MUST have a reference Define any symbols that you use You only have to define them once, the first time you use them Get rid of articles (like the) and shorten text wherever possible Figures and Plots Axes labels and legends must be legible – almost as large as main text Add labels to point things out on a photo or drawing Need 1-2 bullets that describe what the plot is ‘saying’ to the audience Sides with models, analysis, calculations, pictures, etc. need a message 12/7/2018 MAE 4291: Senior Design 1
