Lesson 2 Patient Selection

Accessing PowerForms When you have successfully logged into PowerChart, you can access charting features from different areas. Some examples of how forms are accessed include: Single and Multi Patient Task List Quick Notes Ad Hoc Charting Button PowerForms

Ambulatory Organizer You can select your patient from the Ambulatory Organizer tab in PowerChart. This will ensure that the correct encounter is selected for the patient. Double click the patients name within the Ambulatory Organizer to open the chart. Then, within the patient’s chart, select Ad Hoc. PowerForms

Ensure that you select the correct patient and the correct visit! Patient Selection When you select the option of Ad Hoc Charting from outside of a patient’s chart (i.e. from within the Message Center or Patient Lists), the Patient Search window will display. You can search for a patient using the same methods as you would to look up results or to process orders in PowerChart: Known MRN, Known FIN, or three comma three (name) method. Note: It is imperative that you select the correct visit to ensure that the information that you are documenting is associated with the correct visit. Ensure that you select the correct patient and the correct visit! PowerForms

Ad Hoc Charting After you have identified your patient, the Ad Hoc Charting window will display. The Ad Hoc charting window contains two panes. The left side displays folders that group similar PowerForms. The right side contains the PowerForms grouped under the selected folder. Folders are grouped in an order based on specific PowerForms contained within the folder. For example, the Ambulatory Intake form is available from the Ambulatory Intake folder. PowerForms

Ad Hoc Charting There is also an ‘All Items’ folder. This folder contains PowerForms that are used in different departments at CHKD. It is NOT recommended that you chart patient care on PowerForms contained within the All Items folder. x To open the PowerForm, simply put a checkmark in the box next to the associated PowerForm and click Chart.
