1 Lesson Five: Applying Filters to Patient Lists
In this lesson you will learn: How to Apply Filters to your Patient List Patient Lists

2 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
Filtering parameters can be applied to Patient Lists in order to limit the amount of results returned when creating Patient Lists. By limiting the amount of information on our Patient List, we manage our time more wisely. The creation of filters allows us to avoid looking through entire listings and allows us to find specific, pertinent pieces of information. Patient Lists

3 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
To begin applying filters click on the Patient List that you want to modify within the Organizer. Then, access Patient List Properties by choosing Properties from the Patient List Menu. Patient Lists

4 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
The Patient List Properties window will open. Patient Lists

5 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
When a filtering category is selected from the left side of Customize Patient List Properties window, you can select specific filtering options from the right side of the dialog box that will define which patients are displayed on your Patient List. These options differ depending on which filtering category is selected. Filtering Options Filtering Categories Patient Lists

6 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
As Filtering Options are selected and completed, the applicable Filtering Category will list a checkmark. In the example above, the Admission Criteria was selected, indicated by the checkmark beside the category. Patient Lists

7 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
On the following slides, the filters that can be implemented on your Patient List are introduced. However, for Ambulatory staff, you will most likely use only the Admission Criteria filter. Patient Lists

8 Medical Services Filter
Applying Filters to Patient Lists Medical Services Filter The Medical Service filter restricts patients based on the type of service that they are receiving at CHKDHS. Selecting Medical Services will trigger the Patient List to only display patients that are affiliated with the Medical Services that are selected. If no Medical Services are selected, the system will overlook this filter and generate patients based on other criteria that was entered into the system. Patient Lists

9 Encounter Types Filter
Applying Filters to Patient Lists Encounter Types Filter The Encounter Type filter restricts patients based on their encounter type at CHKHS. Selecting the Encounter Type will trigger the Patient List to only display patients that were admitted to the selected Encounter Locations. If no Encounter Types are selected, the system will overlook this filter and generate patients based on other criteria that was entered into the system when the Patient List was built. Patient Lists

10 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
The Relationship filter restricts patients based on an established Relationship (Visit or Lifetime) between you and patients at CHKHS. Selecting the Relationship filter will trigger the Patient List to only display patients with whom you have the selected relationship. If no Relationship filters are selected, the system will overlook this filter and generate patients based on other criteria that was entered into the system when the Patient List was built. 11 Admission Criteria Filter
Applying Filters to Patient Lists The Admission Criteria filter restricts patients based on their admission dates to CHKDHS. Selecting the Admission Criteria filter will trigger the Patient List to only display patients who were admitted within the specified date range. If no Admission Criteria filters are selected, the system will overlook this filter and generate patients based on other filters that was entered into the system when the Patient List was built. Admission Criteria Filter Patient Lists

12 Applying Filters to Patient Lists
Discharged Criteria Filter The Discharged Criteria filter restricts patients based on their discharge dates from CHKDHS. Selecting the option, “Only Display Patients who have not been discharged” within the Discharged Criteria filter will trigger the Patient List to only display patients who have not been discharged. Depending on how your list is set up, the Discharged Criteria filter will still allow a significant amount of patients to remain on your patient list (because patients are not discharged from Epic until two days after their visit). However, for Ambulatory Patient Lists, it is most important to set the Admission Criteria filter. Patient Lists
