David Shepherd Pre Sales Director (EMEA) AppSense DataNow David Shepherd Pre Sales Director (EMEA)

The AppSense Approach: People-Centric Computing Mobile Applications Interactions Data Access Personalization User Rights Context Integration Optimization Same experience on all devices Apps, look and feel, bookmarks Reduction in IT complexity Migrations, support costs, policy control, licensing Leverage existing technologies Stitch together PC, virtual desktops, virtual apps, mobile devices Using the donut: The donut is used to convey how AppSense deals with ALL aspects of people’s experience. This is a key USP for AppSense and is why we are the leader in this space. You have to be able to manage everything about the user’s experience, otherwise you will not realize the real benefits of people-centric computing. Since we have architected our technology to address these aspects, this can also be used to describe our technology. It is vital to note that the user experience is made available across OS boundaries and across multiple devices seamlessly. What really constitutes as user experience? The user themselves (their personal settings (Personalization), the rules that determine what they can and cannot do (Permissions, Access) The things that a user consumes as part of their work (Applications and Data) Mobile: Providing applications and data access across all mobile devices. This is DataNow and MobileNow products that enable cross-device application portability with integrated application policy (no change to application required – key USP). Applications: Manage access to corporate applications (AM), prevent access to unauthorized applications and application functions (AM, EM), enable isolation application installation to Windows desktop (StataApps) User Rights: Create policy that manages user rights (AM/URM), by application and/or process. Elevate or de elevate to provide the correct level of rights Access: Define policy for what a user can and cannot access (AM/EM). This can be done contextually. Personalization: Persist personal settings across multiple platforms, providing personal settings on-demand and not full setting load-up on login (EM). Data: Providing access to and manipulation of corporate and personal data from various sources via mobile devices and PCs, (DataNow) Interactions: Enabling people to exchange data dynamically creating a platform for people-centric collaboration – early stage, no commercial software. (FFlickIT, Collaj) Integration: API layer to integration with other technologies (e.g. orchestration and systems management solutions) Context: Recognize the current context of the user and responds accordingly (e.g. access to certain apps inside company, but not outside) Governance: Cross-functional layer of policy management and reporting that enables IT to seamless governance the user experience without creating a ‘locked down’ experience. Optimization: Optimization of system resources to provide a performant user experience (faster app access, faster login times etc) My Experience Governance

Tablets: The Next Wave of IT Complexity As of March 2012, over 55 million iPads sold since introduction According to IDC, 67 million total tablets sold in 2010 Projecting 106.1 million tablets sold in 2012 No native access to enterprise data Frequent combination of business and personal data

These Trends drive behavior.. Transfer data to a device of choice Ensure that data on laptops is backed up Share files with internal / external colleagues Access corporate information from mobile devices

Insecure Workarounds Have Always Been There…

…and the Sophistication is Growing

What the Enterprise Does Today

Today’s Enterprise Disconnect Current IT infrastructure and practices are misaligned with user workflow IT User Major investments in centralized servers and storage Access managed by Active Directory Infrastructure management best practices Policies and practices “steering” users towards these investments Need to be productive anywhere Frustrated by “jumping through hoops” like VPN connections Burned by performance / data corruption Path of least resistance = saving files locally on laptop

Five Keys to Success with Your Mobility Strategy Easy for users Simple and efficient for IT Non-disruptive to existing business processes Secure and compliant Flexible as needs evolve

DataNow: An Approach that Starts in the Enterprise Lightweight virtual appliance that integrates with your existing on-premise infrastructure Anywhere data access from corporate PCs, employee-owned PCs, tablets and smartphones No data migration or disruption to existing file paths and business processes Future-proof: single pane of glass for a variety of on-premise and cloud storage approaches

DataNowTM – Infrastructure Existing Storage e.g. NAS/SAN virtual appliance Hyper-V, ESX, XEN Desktop Clients AppSense DataNow is a data orchestration virtual appliance that can be added to an existing IT infrastructure in minutes. It works in concert with a collection of native applications for Windows, Mac, smartphone, and tablet devices. Mobile/Tablet Clients Existing Active Directory

DataNowTM Essentials – Active Directory Connector Desktop Clients home drive DataNow communicates with existing on-premise storage infrastructure using standard communications protocols such as SMB/CIFS. It unlocks new value from existing IT investments rather than trying to replace them or forcing substantial configuration changes. The philosophy behind DataNow is that enterprise data access and orchestration functionality should be storage agnostic. With DataNow, organizations can start quickly with what they have and then make informed decisions around how to increase storage as needs grow. Possible strategies include expanding use on-premises storage, shifting storage to the cloud, or employing a hybrid approach. DMZ Mobile/Tablet Clients Active Directory

DataNowTM – Future Enterprise Connectors Internal storage Desktop Clients Public Cloud Storage Rather than mandating a particular storage approach to enterprise IT teams, DataNow provides maximum flexibility to address evolving storage requirements and cost considerations. Future releases of DataNow will include connectors to popular public cloud storage services, including Amazon S3, Microsoft Windows Azure, and others. With DataNow, both IT teams and users can work the same way they always have. DataNow extends the current Microsoft Active Directory and home directory paradigm to the mobile world. There is no need to provision parallel storage capacity or manage users in multiple places. Mobile/Tablet Clients

Why AppSense for Enterprise Data Simple implementation with no changes to how you store data or provision users Unique on-premises approach overcomes common security / regulatory concerns Storage-agnostic approach – embrace the cloud on your terms Enterprise-focused policy and control Thought leadership that ends beyond data to mobile apps
