Historical Look at Peabody November of 2005 – District approved a nearly $40,000 grant for a new laptop Dell lab at Peabody. Previously one of the most outdated technology labs in the district. August 2006 – May 2007 – my first year as a principal and first year at Peabody. Technology was not a focus. Technology teacher also brand new to position and to the building. Did begin to look at potential grant sources and brought another SMART Board into the building – placed in teacher classroom. Began to look at modeling the use of technology with staff to create interest. Wireless LCD projector and laptop into staff, PTO and PAC meetings. August 2006 – May 2007 – my first year as a principal and first year at Peabody. Technology was not a focus. Technology teacher also brand new to position and to the building. Technology is used as a tool to further students learning. This is evidenced in classrooms throughout the school and on our website. Staff use a variety of technology and tools to enhance student learning and communications with parents.

In third grade, Jennifer Hurley assists two of her students with individual projects on class computers.

Smart Board Teachers and other staff use Smart boards to enhance the curriculum and engage students in their learning. Janet King works with the Smart board in her classroom to bring interesting Math materials and tools to instruct a lesson with a compass. Document Cameras Teachers and students use document cameras as a tool to enlarge texts for focused instruction, to demonstrate new skills, to share student writing for lessons, read alouds, experiments, and other learning activities projected onto the white board or Smart board. Computer Lab Sonja Lahana, Computer coach and technology teacher assists students with learning powerpoint, excel, accessing the internet for research, graphic organizers, math games, reading resources. Excel Fourth grade students created Excel timelines of Colorado Early Indians to correlate with their Social Studies unit study of this Early American Colorado Tribe. Internet Fifth graders maneuvered through the internet, using specific search sites, to complete crossword puzzles on the respiratory system, in connection with the study of their Science Human Body System.
