Observations An observation is any information that we gather using our five senses. EXAMPLE:
Using one or more of your senses to gather information about an object or your surroundings. What are the senses we use in science class? Sight Touch.
Section 1-2. Scientists use many skills to gather information. Most science skills use your 5 senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting.
+ EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS An experimental investigation is one in which a control is identified. The variables are measured in an effort to gather.
Do Now Take out notebook and copy chart ObservationExamples.

How can we make indirect observations? September 12/2018 How can we make indirect observations? If you owe me a signature from any of the 4 handouts please hand it in now in the bin. Copy and answer: Choose an object (not a person) in the room and list 3 observations Homework: Finish today’s lab, due Friday.

Observation Notes

Using your 5 senses to gather information about your surroundings Observation- Using your 5 senses to gather information about your surroundings

Direct/Indirect Observations Direct: to learn about the normal behavior of people or animals in their natural environments. A researcher watches and records while the action is happening Indirect : depends on the reports of others, not observable to the person

2 types of observations Qualitative- using your 5 senses to make observations Quantitative- observations that involve numbers and measurements

Inference a conclusion or opinion that is formed because of known facts or evidence.
