Boldly going where no ROSE has gone before. AP Capstone: Research Boldly going where no ROSE has gone before.

Class Overview The AP Capstone is a two year inquiry-based course that aims to engage students in cross-curricular conversations that explore real-world topics and issues from multiple perspectives. Students are empowered to collect and analyze information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments. *College Level Course *Skills based Course *Student Driven Course

First Semester of Research Students will extend skills learned in Seminar Students will create and maintain PREP journals Students will create an Inquiry Plan Submit a Research Proposal Create an Annotated Bibliography Compose a Literature Review Collaborate with Teacher, mentors and peers

Second Semester Academic Paper 75% of the summative assessment Approximately 4,000-5,000 words in length The paper will include: Introduction, Method, Process, or Approach Results, Product, or Findings Discussion, Analysis, and/or Evaluation Conclusion and Future Directions Bibliography

Second Semester (cont.) Presentation and Oral Defense 25% of summative Assessment Approximately 15-20 minute presentation Panel will ask students 3-4 questions about their research process and topic Presentations and Oral Defense are to demonstrate student’s understanding of the inquiry process as well as their topic at large.

AP and YWCPA Grading Class grades are difference from AP grades Students’ class score will be determined by Research Product Items (30%), PERP Portfolio (35%), Homework (15%) and Meetings/Participation (20%) AP grades and grading scale are set by College Board. Plagiarism policy will align with College Board.

Grading Meetings/Presentations As this is a process class a MAJOR part of their grade comes from Meetings (with Shields/mentor) and daily Class Participation

Presentations Students will present as a part of the AP score as well as the class score. Practicing and getting comfortable is important. Presentations are recorded and sent to College Board. Students need to be professional and prepared. Defending their paper will require and audience. Preferably a diverse group of students and professionals. Students need to make sure they practice for audience and purpose.
