Article of the Week – practice analyzing specific rhetorical strategies + Skill Based Activity- practice/strengthen the craft of writing Major Paper & Revisions ►Wednesday/Thursday (Homework prepared each week) Peer Review Blog- practice rhetorical analysis/argument practice using rubric, providing feedback, multiple perspectives + Lit Circle- rhetorical analysis, reading like a writer, Socratic Seminar- synthesizing arguments, academic discourse, crafting arguments ►Friday- Practice Timed Tests ( 1 essay + multiple choice section)

2 Article of the Week (M/T)
AP Objective ► analyze and interpret samples of purposeful writing, identifying and explaining an author’s use of rhetorical strategies. Each week (M/T) we will analyze rhetorical features of a presented article together. Read alone, annotate/close reading, pose questions What- main idea, attitude, structure, claims, evidence, counter claims, rebuttal How – Diction, Tone, Syntax, Imagery, Figures of Speech, Pace, etc. Why- SOAPS- Subject, Occasion, Audience, Purpose, Speaker Practice: TAG (Title, Author, Genre) 4 Sentence Precis

3 Peer Review Blog- W/Th AP Objective ► analyze and interpret samples of purposeful writing, identifying and explaining an author’s use of rhetorical strategies. ►create and sustain original arguments based on information synthesized from readings, research, and/or personal observation and experience ►Opener- Read an article presented alternating: ►Argument ►Rhetorical Analysis (Precis) ►Each week selected students will practice scoring and providing feedback using the AP rubric ►Peer Feedback ►Practice proofreading ►Evaluate multiple perspectives and possible ways to construct arguments ►Students will then present feedback on trends, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

4 Lit Circle (biweekly) ►AP Objectives:
Analyze and interpret samples of purposeful writing, identifying and explaining an author’s use of rhetorical strategies ►Tasks Homework- Begin reading “like a writer” finding effective rhetorical strategies in a wide range of articles and texts. Select one article to analyze and share in our lit circles. Prepare by annotating, identifying devices and strategies, asking questions of the text, etc. Post the link and your analysis to the website. Lit Circle- You will be grouped to read/share the articles of each member. Each member lead a discussion and evaluation of the article. Pitch- Each group will select the finest example of rhetorical strategies and then “pitch” your selection to the whole class. Whole class analysis- That group will then facilitate a discussion and analysis of the article.

5 Socratic Seminar (biweekly)
►AP Objectives: Create and sustain original arguments based on information synthesized from readings, research, and/or personal observation and experience ►Tasks Homework- come to class having read and analyzed the prepared readings (notes) Opening- Post open-ended thought provoking questions based upon the readings Participate in discussion: contribute to propel conversation, cite textual evidence, insert new ideas and questions, actively listen balancing your contributions Post Discussion- argument writing journal to practice techniques of argumentation and develop as a writer

6 Practice Testing (Friday)
AP Objective ► assessment of each style of writing of the unit, test taking strategies, timed practice Essay: Timed 45 minute + Multiple Choice: Timed Passages/MC Questions ►Argument (1st 9 weeks) ►Synthesis (3rd 9 weeks) ►Rhetorical Analysis (2nd 9 weeks) ►Review (4th 9 weeks)
