Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Financial Studies Mrs Westwood hwestwood@ccs.northants.sch.uk

Financial Two units assessed via multiple choice exams (both units worth 35% of GCSE): Unit 1 - Finance, the Individual and Society (sat around Easter of Year 10) Unit 2 – Practises of Managing Money (sat in November / December of Year 11) Each exam contains 35 multiple-choice questions. One unit assessed via written exam (worth 30% of GCSE): Unit 3 – Financial Capability, Work and Enterprise (sat in May of Year 11) The Unit 3 exam is based on a pre-released case study and has a total of 30 marks available.

How can students ensure that they achieve the higher grades? By developing a thorough knowledge and understanding of the topic materials. Completing homework tasks to the best of their ability. By revisiting the materials after they have been covered in class (this is already done straight after via the homework tasks set) but could be done again a month later. Reading around the subject using sources such as the BBC News – Your Money section to boost enjoyment and understanding. Completing all past papers and revision tasks thoroughly.

What can be done at home to help? Support students with learning the content of the topic materials. Encourage them to make time to revise in the run up to the exams. Help them to access revision materials and topic notes emailed (with parents copied in) Encourage careful revision using revision posters, notes, flash cards, mind maps etc – whichever method works for them. Remind them – revision needs to be active (not just reading / highlighting). Be available to test them – ask them to explain key information from the topic materials to you (while you have the topic materials to refer to). Discuss your financial experiences and opinions with them and encourage them to chat with other friends or family members who may be happy to discuss this with them. Encourage them to read around the subject (the Personal Finance or Your Money section of the BBC News website is excellent).
