1 How can I support my child through GCSE History?
The Good news: Most parents will be able to make a positive contribution to their child's success in this subject

2 Year 11 PPE Students will be taking an exam on two of their sections:
Section A – Britain and Health 1000 to present Section B – Conflict and Tension They should be revising now in preparation Many student did not perform to their potential in the Year 10 PPE – this was due to a lack of revision in many cases

3 Year 11 – Practice for the final exams
We will finish the course by March 2019 We hope to run an additional PPE on Paper 2 Section B Norman England at this point This will mean that they have had exam practice on all elements of the exam After March, all lessons will be devoted to exam practice and revision It is important to continue attendance even when the exams have started

4 Study Guides – Paper 1 Normally make a joke about copyright lawyers … they have been written by the department using all the available books. This means that they are focused on the course. All students have received two so far – the one on Conflict and Tension and the one on Medicine They will receive the one on Germany in December and the one on the Normans in March Please remind them that we ask for a £5 contribution towards the cost of production – this is set up on ParentPay. If there are any issues with this please speak to your child’s history teacher or Mr Bacon.

7 Where to find them? Students can access them on the school portal
While they are available in electronic form, we have found (and it has been proven by educational research) that it is more beneficial for students to have a paper copy in front of them. Please encourage them to read through and highlight key points as the starting point for their revision.

9 How to use them? All start with an exam success section – the first page will be a PLC that allows students to RAG their knowledge. Students should use this to target areas that they need to focus on.

14 How to use them? 4 marks = 5 minutes = 1 paragraph
8 marks = 10 minutes = 2 paragraphs 12 marks = 15 minutes = 3 paragraphs 16 marks = 20 minutes = 4 paragraphs Across the two exams, there are 4 mark allocations. Your sons / daughters should be able to repeat this back to you as their history teachers have been telling them this since the start of the course.

In each section there are lots of practice questions (which also include the markscheme). Anything that students want to write for practice, their teacher will gladly mark!

20 Revision Classes We will run intervention sessions on a Monday after the PPEs They will run right up to exams Some students will be required to attend due to their performance in the exam or concerns about their work in class Any other student is welcome to attend
