2. Aims of the Evening
To gain an understanding of the Year 9 curriculum and the GCSE reforms,
To be aware of what the Maths Team has put in place to help our students achieve their best,
To gain an understanding of how to support your daughter to succeed with the best possible outcomes.

3. GCSE Reform
The new GCSE has more demanding content (Problem solving and Mathematical reasoning) and has a different grading scale.
Grade 5 has a large proportion of old grade B content
Grade 9 has some AS content
About 3% of the population will be awarded a grade 9

6. How we are meeting the challenge
Home Learning using Mathswatch vle. “Our MASTER Tool!’
Differentiated Schemes of learning that helps teachers meet the needs of each student
Revision time before Assessments
End of Unit Assessments (after every 2-3 weeks of teaching)
Dedicated Mastery and ‘Re-teach’ lessons
After School intervention (invitation) and Maths Club (Walk-in clinic)

7. Exams Board and Entry
The Exams Board we follow is Pearson (Edexcel) Your child will follow either
The Higher tier with grades from 4 to 9
The Foundation tier with grades from 1 to 5

8. Every Lesson Counts …
All pupils have access to the full range of differentiated tasks
Pupils are given the opportunity to select the appropriate task for themselves
Pupils are aware that every lesson they should be engaged in a task which challenges them but which is also achievable
Pupils are given frequent opportunities to reflect on their learning / progress against their learning journey.

71% Grades 9 – 4 (compared to 52% in 2017)
51% Grades 9 – 4 (compared to 30% in 2017)
23% Grades 9 – 7 (compared to 8% in 2017)

10. How can you help your daughter?
Research has shown that pupil attainment is highly influenced by parent support.
Please encourage your child to practise, practise and practise.
Ensure your child completes all homework set on time.
Encourage her to look at helpful revision websites and revision guides.
Urge your child to talk to their class teacher/Maths Department if they need support
