Flexible Instructional Time at JBHS By this time, all of you should be settled into your Home FIT classes and will soon be getting into the routine of attending FIT each Tuesday and Wednesday. We’d like to take a few minutes to talk about FIT, so you know what you can expect. Tomorrow, we will show you the new FIT portal which will allow you some autonomy to decide how you spend your Flexible Instructional Time. Student Instructional Video

Flexible Instructional Time The purpose of Flexible Instructional Time (FIT) is to systematically ensure every child receives the additional time and support required to master essential standards and learn at high levels. FIT meetings will occur every Tuesday and Wednesday. First of all, Flexible Instructional Time, or FIT for short, is a way to make sure that you are able to take care of business during the school day. FIT will be every Tuesday and Wednesday after 1st or 5th period and before 1st lunch.

Flexible Instructional Time Examples of meetings that teachers may offer: Pre-teaching vocabulary or prerequisite content Reteach Grade Remediation Make-up work Content review Study Skills Test prep (EOC, AP, SAT, etc.) Guided study Workshops FIT is a time for you to personalize your academic day. You can choose to use this time to get organized, complete homework assignments, meet with teachers for tutorials, make up missed assignments, and even explore subjects you’d like to learn more about. FIT is also a time for teachers to assign you to a session if they feel you need extra help, additional time, or for some other reason. If a teacher assigns you to a session, it doesn’t mean you are in trouble or have done something wrong, but you are required to attend. You will not be able to schedule yourself for any other session that day.

Priority Days (repeating schedule) Tuesday Wednesday Week #1 Math English Week #2 Social Studies Foreign Language Week #3 Fine Arts/CTE/Health Science If no teacher has assigned you to a session on a particular FIT day, you are free to attend FIT in any subject you like. Even if you are passing and doing well in your classes, this is an opportunity for you to improve your skills and do even better. Expect to be assigned to a FIT session, and if you are not assigned, take the initiative to seek out a session that will benefit you. And, as we said before, if a teacher assigns you to a session, that’s where you gotta go. If more than one teacher wants to assign you to a FIT session, they will follow the priority day schedule you see here.

Basic FIT Rules Sign up in the Student Portal by Monday each week for a FIT meeting for Tuesday and another for Wednesday (if not assigned by a teacher) Go where you are supposed to go and stay there no restroom passes no library passes no locker trips no students in the halls or restrooms at all The rules are pretty simple. Check your FIT portal every Monday after 9:00 am. If you have not been assigned to a session by a teacher, you must sign up for an open session. On FIT days, go where you are supposed to be and stay there. You won’t be able to see a teacher last minute, run to the library, or grab something from your locker, so plan in advance and come prepared. This is a basic life skill. The only time a paper pass will be accepted is if you are being summoned to the office. You will also not be allowed to leave campus after 1st or 5th period on FIT days. If you have 2nd or 6th period off, you are only allowed to leave campus after FIT.

What happens if I don’t go? The FIT portal will send a referral if you do not attend an assigned session. Each referral will result in: Conference with student parent phone call 2 lunch detentions If you skip FIT or miss a session assigned by your teacher, there will be consequences. If you’re still in the hall when the tardy bell rings for FIT, you will be taken to D108 where you will be assigned two detentions and then you will sit in silence for the rest of the FIT period. Don’t let this happen to you! Know where you’re going and get there quickly! If you miss a session assigned by your teacher, the FIT portal will automatically send a referral to an AP who will assign you detention.

How do I schedule a FIT meeting? Stay Tuned... Tomorrow in Home FIT -- Learn how to use the FIT portal and sign-up for meetings! FIT sessions will begin next week. You will learn more about FIT tomorrow, including how to access and sign up for sessions in the FIT portal. You are expected to sign up for a FIT session if you have not been assigned by a teacher. The portal is a way to see which sessions are offered, and if a teacher has assigned you. If a teacher hasn’t assigned you by 9:00 am Monday morning, you can sign yourself up for any session. FIT sessions require that you reserve a seat by signing up in the FIT portal. Besides teacher-directed sessions, there are some study halls available. If you sign up for these study halls, you must bring something to work on, study, or read. FIT time is not time to socialize!

Questions? ? That’s all for today. If you have any questions, ask your Home FIT teacher now. If your Home FIT teacher doesn’t have the answer, he or she can get it for you by the next meeting. See you in Home Fit tomorrow!!
