HDFS Study Abroad Programs Why Study Abroad? There are over 400 programs available to University of Illinois students. The following are programs that fit well for students in HDFS. Consider your interests, academic goals, and geography and talk to both your academic advisor and the College of ACES study abroad office about what fits your needs. Studying Abroad gives students an edge in the job market; You can impress prospective employers by gaining a global outlook and diverse perspective. On the back of this sheet are some suggested programs that vary from semester to summer. How do I get started? Go to www.studyabroad.illinois.edu and watch the “First Steps Video”. Then do some searches for where you want to go, and what program looks the best for you. Program Summaries Winter Break Programs (Faculty Led) ACES in Sierra Leone: Winter Break ACE 499: Sustainability - Agriculture, Environment, and Governance ACES in South Africa: Children and Families Service: Winter Break HDFS 379: Volunteer work will focus on HIV/AIDS education, child/health care, and community projects ACES in Jamaica: Discovering Ag. Systems: Winter Break ACES 298 - Discovering Food, Human, and Environmental Systems of the Caribbean Islands ACES in the Dominican Republic: Discovering Ag. Sys.: Winter Break Semester Programs ACES in France, EI Purpan: Semester or Year Pre-determined semesters of courses offered in English. Fall: Production mgmt., Spring: Food Science ACES in France at LaSalle: Spring Semester Diverse modules focused on technology and managerial sciences in food production IAGE Food and Culture in Rome: Semester Courses in Culture of food, Food marketing and business, and Italian ACES Study and Intern South Africa: Semester Enroll in two courses and complete an internship ACES in the Netherlands: Semester or Year Courses in Social. Life, and Environmental Sciences as well as Food and Technology ACES in Ireland at UCD: Semester or Year ABE Students must apply through IPENG. A variety of courses are offered. IAGE Exchange: Universidad San Francisco de Quito: Semester Courses in Business, Political science and Law. Majority of students volunteer in the community. ACES in UK Reading: Semester or Year Study on exchange at the University of Reading ACES in Australia: Semester or Year Study on exchange at the University of Sydney ACES in Denmark at UC: Semester or Year Best suited for spring semester. No language req. Applicants with senior standing can take M.Sc courses Summer Abroad ACES in France at LaSalle : Study and Intern 3 weeks of workshops/classes and an 8 week internship in a French restaurant ACES Study & Intern in France at EI Purpan: Four weeks of courses and an optional extra four week internship on a farm or vineyard ACES/Engineering in Brazil Vicosa: Semester Intensive Portuguese language course with either an independent study, research, or internship IAGE Food and Culture in Rome: Courses in Culture of food, Food marketing and business, and Italian ACES Provider in Greece: Study and Intern One required course with either of a second course or internship over a five week period ACES/Engineering in China: Faculty Led Industry and cultural trips with 3 credit hours of research at Zhejiang University For More Programs and Information: http://academics.aces.illinois.edu/study-abroad
