On behalf of the Academic Advising & Exploration Center, we thank you for the opportunity to provide you with some very important information about us, and our role in helping you better navigate your academic career at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Allow us to give you some tools to help YOU help yourself to be knowledgeable and successful in your time at UW-Whitewater.

WINS You are able to login to WINS, our university student administration system, from the UWW homepage. You can find the link for WINS on the right hand side of the homepage.

WINS – Student Center This is the Student Center page located in WINS. WINS gives you access to the your class schedule, the schedule of classes, personal information such as address, finance information, financial aid information, hold information, and registration for courses. Feel free to explore the WINS System, no harm can be done by exploring! It is your responsibility to monitor the accuracy of information in WINS so it is important that you become familiar with all of the aspects of WINS.

WINS – Holds From the Student Center page you can view your Holds. You are unable to register for courses when you have a hold present on your account. Every semester you will receive an advising hold that will remain on your account until you meet with your advisor. You can also receive holds from other departments on campus such as Student Financial Services, Admissions, etc.. It is very important that you check your holds before your registration start time every semester so that you will be able to register for courses on time.

Click on “Degree Progress Reports” WINS – Academics Important features regarding academics are displayed on your Student Center page. Under Academic History you can select Advisement Report: It is required that you have a current copy of your AR with you each time you meet with your advisor. Advisor: Always be aware of who is currently assigned as your academic advisor. Open Enrollment Dates: Every semester you will be assigned a registration start time based on the number of units you have earned. Click here to find out what date and time you will be able to register for the following semester. Remember that you need to meet with your advisor before this date! Schedule of Classes: As mentioned earlier, the Schedule of Classes is available online. Select Add a Class and then select the appropriate term. Add a Class / Drop a Class: Click Add a Class or Drop a Class to make changes to your schedule. To register for classes, you will select Add a Class. Click on “Degree Progress Reports”

WINS – To Register Enter 4 Digit Class Number OR Search Click Enter To add a class to your schedule, first select the appropriate term. After you have selected the term, make sure you select the green Change button. You need to enter the 4-digit class number in the Enter Class Number space. Remember that the 4-digit class number can be found in the schedule of classes. After entering the class number you will click the green enter button. If you do not have the 4-digit class number, select Search For Classes to view the list of open classes. Here you can search all available open classes online. Enter 4 Digit Class Number OR Search Click Enter

Search For Classes Select the Course Subject from the drop down menu. You can also enter the exact course number to narrow down your search. In this case, the subject is Mathematics and the Course Number is 141. After entering this information you will click on the green search button.

Select Classes to Add Once you define your search, WINS will provide you with a list of open classes that meet your search criteria. To add a particular class to your enrollment shopping cart, click the green Select Class button.

Confirming Your Class Selection After you select the class, it is then added to your enrollment shopping cart. To actually enroll in the course and add it to your class schedule, you need to proceed to step 3. We recommend that you register for each class individually rather than filling your shopping cart and attempting to register for all the courses at once. Also, make sure you delete classes out of your enrollment shopping cart if you received an error when attempting to register for them. For example, you would want to delete the English course above that is closed. If you do not delete items that have an error message from your enrollment shopping cart, WINS will still recognize the course and prompt you that you have a scheduling conflict with other courses you select at the same time. Select Proceed to Step 2 of 3 button to actually enroll in the course. Make sure you click through ALL the green buttons!

View Results The final step is the enrollment confirmation. You will then receive a message either saying success (enrolled) or error (unable to add class). If the status is success (green check mark), you were able to successfully add the course to your schedule. If the message says error (red X), you were unable to add the course. If there is an error, the message prompt will indicate why you were unable to register for the course. It might be because the course is full or it might have a time conflict with one of your other courses or you might not meet the pre-requisites for the course.
