1 ECampus, Starfish, and Signing up for Classes
Preparing for academic advising in the student's major These three topics are very important for you as students to firmly grasp seeing as you will be using them and doing them for all of your time spent at this University. By the end of this presentation you will be more skilled in using the ecampus and starfish websites and also have a better handle on how to sign up for classes

2 Why do we use Ecampus? -Transcripts -Advisor holds -Enrollment dates
-Your schedule -Class shopping cart -Check bills e-Campus is the administrative system that students can use to access their records, register for courses, check
bills and other financial information, look at grades, transcripts, etc. RACHEL

3 See your success network: faculty, advisors, services
Make an appointment with your advisor or professors Faculty communicate with you about how you are doing in class - Login Information: Use your ecampus username & sakai password RACHEL

4 Ecampus and shopping for classes

5 ECampus Basics: Before you can start making your schedule, you have to check on your holds: On the homepage, all you have to do is scroll down to view your holds so you can see what you have to do before you can begin enrolling RACHEL

6 When can you start enrolling. It’s different for everyone
When can you start enrolling? It’s different for everyone! Based on how many credits you have earned. Click details for exact day and time you can begin registration. You do not need to register at that exact time. Right below where you found your holds is where your enrollment date is. It is important to check this date far in advance so you know when to make your advising appointment and when to start shopping around to plan your next semester’s schedule RACHEL

7 How do i know about my credits and past courses???
Click Academic Record To see: -your AP credits -the past classes (transcript) -the semester you took the class -what grade you received -how many credits the class was worth RACHEL

12 How do i Shop for just Gen. ed. Classes?
Similarly to how you shopped for your major classes, RACHEL

13 A class i wanted filled up...now what?!
= a class is open, you can add it to your cart = a class has filled up, you cannot add it to your cart TIP:-Add every option into your cart for a specific class -Have multiple course options -enroll as soon as you can to the time you have been assigned when making your schedule, add every option it has for the days and times because classes fill up and you won’t always get the classes you want. It’s important to have multiple plans to fall back on when some of your classes start filling out RACHEL

14 Starfish and advising appts.

15 Who are the people in your success network? Advisors, faculty, services
First off: to enter starfish you can access through ecampus or simply use the link. You will sign in with your ecampus username and sakai password. This is what a success network looks like. For mine I only have a couple of Professors and advisors listed. Simply, if your other professors are not listed, they might have not set up a starfish yet. So don’t worry about it. You can always your professor or advisor if they are not listed, if you need to set up a meeting to talk or appointment What’s good is that your professors can talk to each other though starfish and say you aren't coming to class, one of your professors may reach out to the other to see if you are not showing up to theirs either.

16 How to make an appointment on starfish
Log on using e-campus username and sakai password Click on ‘My success network’ Click on person’s on-line calendar Choose open slot You will get an confirmation. *note: if your professor does not have a schedule up on starfish you cannot make an appointment thru this system

17 Who is my advisor? Will i always have them?
You can find your primary advisor(s) on Starfish. Eventually you will have a new advisor once you transition out of University College and into your specific College RACHEL

18 second grade option: re-take class with C- or below for first 30 credits
You can find the second grade option form at uri.edu/advising Second grade option is always good to know, I used this for my Precalc class freshman year. Basically you can repeat a class by second grade option if you received a C-, D+, D-, or an F. But what is important to know is that second grade option will only apply to courses within your first 30 credits taken at the University. (no later than 2 next semesters after that course) You must obtain approval from the academic deans and submit the appropriate form to the Office of Enrollment Services prior to midterm of the semester in which the course is being repeated. The Second Grade Option may be used only once per course.
