Where are we headed? The democratization of information

INFORMATION Twenty years ago... Whoever had the information had power !

Mass media The public The affected country Donors Today... Power lies in disseminating information

Twenty years ago... Usually, information originated from one single source

Today... Information comes from all over !

In summary...

Source: Internet World Stats, 2003 We must close the digital divide

Growth is tremendous, but the digital divide remains...

The Internet is used for many purposes...

... Time is our scarcest resource! Why dont we make more use of available information? Today, information is not our scarcest resource...

Too little time + Too much information = expectations that cannot be met

Unmet expectations = LOST TIME Lost time = LOST CLIENTS

We used to talk about the information have-nots... N ow we talk about the information can nots

In summary... The digital divide is closing Use of the Internet in disaster management contributes to transparency

In summary... The digital divide is closing Use of the Internet in disaster management contributes to transparency Those who adopt a non-restrictive, open policy regarding Internet communication and dissemination of information will have the last word!
